Team Liquid just did something that nobody could have seen coming.
Nope, no need to pinch yourself – Joshua “Dardoch” Hartnett has actually been suspended by Team Liquid.
A few hours ago, a random Redditor made a post saying that Dardoch was going to be kicked off of Team Liquid in favor of the team’s Challenger jungler and former NRG Esports player Galen “Moon” Holgate. However, people didn’t give the post a lot of attention since there wasn’t any solid proof and the whole thing just didn’t make any sense.
Not only did was the post itself not believable, but then Dardoch himself addressed it on Twitter by saying:
That’s that, right? Just a crappy rumor made up on a slow day?
Team Liquid just announced that Dardoch has officially been suspended for “recent behavioral problems and team dynamics issues.”
In the announcement, head coach Yoonsup “Locodoco” Choi stated: “I believe that League of Legends is fundamentally a team game and a player who can’t see eye to eye with that and can’t put the team before oneself regardless of his skill will only stunt the team in the long run.”
Team Liquid are one of the few teams that created a YouTube series around their team, and there were a lot of times when there was a clear conflict between Locodoco and Dardoch. Insubordination was the biggest reason for this suspension, and it’s obvious that a lot of it had to do with the player and coach.
Steve Arhancet, co-owner of Team Liquid, also made a statement that had some huge details in it: “Effective since the 18th of May 2016, Josh has been placed under suspension from Team Liquid for behavioural issues – namely, insubordination. Faced with a difficult decision to keep his suspension active and prevent future competitive play for the remainder of his contract, I decided that it would be fair to facilitate a possible transfer for other teams.”
First off, it’s pretty impressive that this has been in action for over a week without any news coming out (besides that little Reddit post from earlier). It’s also kind of surprising because the team has been in Korea bootcamping, and that must mean that things got really bad for them to make a move there.
Secondly – woah – a transfer? When you first hear about a player being suspended, you think: “Ok, so when is he coming back?” In the situation with Dardoch and Team Liquid, it looks like the team doesn’t want him back at all. That’s hard to comprehend.
The announcement ended with, “We will continue to support him and work to resolve issues while also facilitating a possible transfer to other teams.
The news comes just a week before the Summer Split begins, so Team Liquid and other teams must get moving quickly in order to make the best out of this situation.
It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out. One of the best up-and-coming talents is available for the taking, but it looks like he could be a headache within a team. Who is going to take him on?
