TSM’s undefeated regular season came to an end by the hands of Phoenix1.
TSM has had a magical 2016 Summer Split that was undefeated coming into Week 8, but then it came to a crashing halt.
No one put much thought into their series against Phoenix1 today and figured the last obstacle towards an undefeated regular season was Immortals in Week 9, but that’s what makes competition so great — anything can happen on any given day.
TSM crushed Phoenix1 in Game 1 in just 25 minutes, but everything changed after that.
In Game 2, Phoenix1 and jungler Rami “Inori” Charagh threw TSM a curveball by busting out Rengar out of nowhere.
It wasn’t all on Inori in that game, but he carried about as hard as a jungler can and put up an incredible 12-2-7 performance that tied the series.
TSM banned Rengar for the final game of the series and were obviously expected to win, but Inori and the rest of Phoenix1 were out to prove that Game 2 wasn’t a fluke.
Inori was on Rek’Sai, not quite the carry threat that Rengar is, but still had his way with TSM and seemingly put them into a state of tilt.
Ultimately, TSM fell apart in Game 3 and Phoenix1 ended things rather quickly. Again, Inori was phenomenal and had a 6-0-10 performance on Rek’Sai.
This gave TSM their first official loss of the summer and shook up the NA LCS as a whole.
It’s not often you get unreal surprises like that in League of Legends, and it was truly an unbelievable series to witness.
A lot of people wanted to see TSM go undefeated, but you can’t be mad at an upset this exciting.
What makes things even more exciting is the fact that TSM might not even finish at the top of the standings anymore. They should be able to take down Team Envy tomorrow, but they still have their monster showdown aginst Immortals next week.
If TSM go on to lose against Immortals, they would fall to the second spot in the NA LCS. Can you imagine that?
It’s crazy how easily things can change. Everyone was just talking about how TSM was going to go undefeated and solidify the fact that they are one of the best teams North America has ever seen, and now they are in a position where they have to do everything in their power just to get the top spot in the rankings.
Next week is going to be insane.
