Rising Champions

Vel’Koz (B to B+ tier)

This was just a slight bump to Vel in Patch 9.13, but his win rate did significantly spike in Patch 9.13 (from 50.1% in 9.12 to 51.1% in 9.13). I will point out that variance regarding his position is very high, as there are equal numbers of sites that rate him as a B grade as do an A.

Yuumi (C to B tier)

As with all new champions, as players grow more accustomed to her playstyle, her win rate begins to stabilize to something closer to her actual power level. In Patch 9.13, the Magical Cat’s win rate is at the highest level it has been since her release, at 47.9%. Given that her pick rate has also fallen steadily since release (now down to 14.5%, the fourth-most picked support currently), I think support mains are probably growing more comfortable with her as less-experienced supports begin to discard her for more stable picks.

As a newer champion, Yuumi does have the highest variance of opinion as to her current power level (Mobalytics and MetaSRC have her as an S tier pick, while U.gg has her in their D tier). Although we now have four patches worth of data to examine, I think it’s still difficult to tell exactly how strong this champion is, but it’s likely she is actually higher than B tier.

Falling Champions

Morgana (A+ to A tier)

Morgana’s win rate has consistently dipped over the last five patches, now down to 48.3%. Part of the reason for this, I suspect, is due to the continued prominence of Lux.

Lux currently has a -4.1% win rate delta against Morgana (meaning Morg loses on average 4.1% more often against Lux support than she does on average) and Lux currently has both the highest pick rate and win rate of all supports. It was honestly quite shocking that she did not catch nerfs in Patch 9.13 and I’d be even more shocked if that doesn’t change in the next patch.

Zilean (A+ to B+ tier)

Although Zilean’s win rate actually increased by 0.6% in this patch, he took a fairly significant drop in strength from last patch. However, he is most often given an A grade, so I’m inclined to think this was just an overreaction by our calculations, and he should be situated as an A tier support.

Soraka (A to B tier)

Soraka has dropped off in win rate recently as well, now below 50%. With hard-engage supports like Thresh and Nautilus being at the top of the charts right now, the Starchild isn’t getting the opportunity to pump out healing and is instead getting blown up instantly.

Sona (A+ to B tier)

She got hit with (overdue) nerfs in Patch 9.13 and thus had the biggest drop on our tier list of any support. We’ll get into the mechanics of her nerfs in a bit but her win rate drops from 51.5% to 49.8% in a single patch.

Fiddlesticks (A to B+ tier)

No nerfs to Fiddlesticks in this patch so it’s a bit puzzling to see that he fell down one tier. His win rate dipped by a minuscule amount, but he’s generally rated about the same as he was last patch.

Lulu (B+ to B tier)

The Fae Sorceress actually got a little bump to her win rate in Patch 9.13, yet she fell in our tier list. Unfortunately, opinion surrounding Lulu‘s strength in the meta seems pretty solidly “good, but not great.” She only got two sites to give her A grades in this patch.

Taric (B to C tier)

Last patch, Taric was barely clinging to the bottom of the B tier, but now it appears he has fallen out of it. Though his win rate is back up to over 50% (barely) his terrible pick rate and difficulty into the better healing enchanters like Janna, Bard, and Zilean keeps pushing him down.

Alistar (C to D tier)

Similarly, Alistar was on the fringe of D tier last patch but got knocked down in Patch 9.13 despite no nerfs nor seeing a significant decrease to his win rate. Like Taric, he’s getting bullied by those enchanter supports who can kite away his engage.

Galio (D to F tier)

Left off the tier lists of three out of the nine sites we audited, Galio has gone from one of the premiere supports in professional play to a niche pick in solo queue. With an embarrassing 43.8% win rate, he’s definitely not worth playing right now.
