New subtractions

Hecarim
After a quick re-emergence onto our tier list (albiet in the F tier), top lane Hecarim appears to have fallen out of favor once again. While he was a very strong and stable pick for a while in top, he now seems to be confined to the jungle role.

Viktor
He’s been a stalwart in the top lane since the beginning of the season, but now it looks like top lane Viktor might be done for good. Last patch, he was in the F tier, and now he’s been knocked off our tier list completely.

Pyke

We touched on those nerfs to Pyke in our support ranking, but the nerfs were definitely sufficient to take Pyke out of the top lane meta completely.

Rising Champions

Darius (A+ to S tier)

Although both his win rate and pick rate dropped in Patch 9.13, Darius is now universally considered the second-best top behind Riven. Only two sites rated him below an A, and both of those were B grades.

Mordekaiser (F to A+ tier)

Here he is. After the rework, everyone was wondering where the Iron Revenant would land on our tier list and after a patch’s worth of data the answer is: pretty damn high.

Mordekaiser has a 51.4% win rate despite having the second-highest win rate among all top laners. His only real problem is that he can struggle into Riven, who is the best top laner (still) in League of Legends.

Illaoi (C to A tier)

She didn’t just get big buffs, she got a lot of big buffs in Patch 9.13. In a single patch, her win rate rose almost 3%, from 48.8% to 51.7%. She is definitely in a massively strong state right now, perhaps needing to have those buffs dialed back.

Tahm Kench (B+ to A tier)

Unbenched from support, top lane Tahm continues to be a menace even after the nerfs in Patch 9.12. His win rate actually rose to 52.3% – more than a full percentage point – despite those nerfs.

Kennen (B to B+ tier)

He actually got a sharp uptick to his win rate in the last patch, going from 50.1% to 51.9% win rate. It’s unclear what the cause of this surge was, but there are still plenty of sites that have their doubts about Kennen’s strength.

Nasus (B to B+ tier)

Nasus hasn’t gotten any love, directly or indirectly, in recent patches and his win rate hasn’t changed. Despite this, he is getting graded in the A tier more than any other ranking.

Karma (C to B tier)

She rose to prominence as a top laner after some buffs that were immediately walked back in Patch 9.13. The nerfs were effective, as her win rate dropped from over 53% to 49.3% in one patch. I think she’s only rated this high because people saw her becoming a bit of a flavor of the month pick, but she’ll probably drop back to niche status thanks to those recent nerfs.

Quinn (D to C tier)

Quinn has always been something of an odd pick, played almost exclusively by the collection of players who invest a lot of time on her. I don’t think she or her strength have actually changed, but it’s more a matter of other champions around her falling off and giving her a bit more room to shine.
