Buffed champions

Katarina

Although there aren’t a lot of healing-heavy mid laners in League of Legends right now, and healing supports aren’t exactly super strong, Katarina’s buff adding 60% healing reduction to her R – Death Lotus got her twirling into the S tier for the first time ever. Her win rate did also increase in Patch 9.14, but by less than a percent and it only went back to where it was previously in Patch 9.12.

Kled

We talked about this change in the top lane tier list, but it’s worth mentioning that Kled also got that 60% healing reduction on his Q – Beartrap on a Rope, since he’s making an appearance in the 9.14 mid lane tier list (in the D tier).

Fizz

Early on in the patch, Fizz’s buff to his Nimble Fighter passive – which now scales with his AP to a max of 50% damage reduction – was bugged and required a hotfix. It’s since been re-hotfixed, but he’s definitely in a stronger spot in Patch 9.14. His win rate jumped from 51.5% to now being 53.3% and he rose to the A tier as a result.

Karma

More from Blog of Legends

Yes, unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that Karma mid lane is going away any time soon. She got true vision added to her W – Focused Resolve while the enemy is rooted, but luckily her win rate actually dropped by about 0.9% to now being below 50% for this patch. As a result, she remains in the C tier as a mid laner.

Leblanc

She too got a true vision mechanic added to her kit on her tether ability, E – Ethereal Chains. However, she remains in the C tier (though she did rise a bit) with a win rate of 46.2%.

Morgana

Finally, in our champions with true vision added, Morgana got this mechanic added to the tethers on her R – Soul Shackles. Morgana has been a strong mid laner for quite a while now, but the buff didn’t really improve her win rate (50.4%) or ranking in our aggregated tier list (B+ tier).

Cassiopeia

I know the Cassiopeia nerfs looked strong on paper, but holy hell I don’t think anyone expected this. Cassiopeia got base stat changes (largely to make her a bit weaker early game and scale better) and had the minimum cast range on her W – Miasma removed, but the biggest change was the change to her healing on E – Twin Fang.

The result of these buffs is that Cassiopeia has become a monster in the mid lane. Her win rate jumped from 50.9% in 9.13 to 52% in 9.14, and as a result, she moved from the D tier all the way to the B+ tier.

Aurelion Sol

The ever-overlooked Aurelion Sol finally got some buffs in 9.14 to remind players that he’s not just an OP unit in Teamfight Tactics. Riot buffed the maximum stun duration and rate of star growth on his Q – Starsurge and he moved into the top half of our aggregated rankings for the first time ever. He even saw his pick rate jump to over 1.5% for the first time since we’d been tracking the stat!

Malphite

We talked more about the Malphite buffs in top lane and it’s not as though his appearance in the mid lane tier list is so farfetched so we won’t delve into the changes much here. He’s still a troll-level pick so don’t be thinking you can pull this article out to justify your full AP mid lane Malphite in your next ranked game. I wash my hands of it.

Ryze

After the latest rework of Ryze, Riot decided to give him some power back as players began picking up his “new” play pattern. Not only did he get some base stat buffs, he also got the ability to buffer his ability casts. As a result, he moved up into our C tier from D tier and has seen his win rate increase every patch since the rework, now up to 49.9%.

Swain

Last but not least we have Swain, who just got basically a mini-rework in Patch 9.14. His passive, Ravenous Flock now converts his Soul Fragments to additional maximum health and restores his mana and his R – Demonic Ascension/Demonflare now doubles the health gained based on the number of Soul Fragments, rather than dealing damage based on the number he had. This change made his ultimate operate more like the old version of Swain, where he drains health from his targets, but now on re-activating he deals damage that is partially based off the amount of health he drained during the first cast.

The other big change Swain got was to his Q – Death’s Hand where the missiles now pierce through minions and only stop on impact with champions. This change was huge for Swain, as it now gave him reliable wave clear. However, his win rate after the rework is a pitiful 47.1% and he remains in our F tier.
