League of Legends Patch 9.14 tier list – support edition
By Josh Tyler
Buffed champions
Blitzcrank
Blitz was one of the lucky champions to get one of the new mechanics added to his kit. The change to his R – Static Field where it negates all shields certainly put him on the radars of the sites that we audited as he jumped up from the B tier to the A tier. Having the fifth-best win rate among supports (51.7%, up from 49.9% in 9.13) didn’t hurt his case to be one of the top-ranked supports either.
Leona
She got damage mitigation added to her W – Eclipse in Patch 9.14, meaning she took a flat amount of reduced damage before factoring in her armor and MR. While this didn’t seem that big at the time (especially given that she got compensatory nerfs to her W and R – Solar Flare), it’s proven to be huge as her win rate is now 52.7%, up over 2.2% from last patch. As a result, she flew out of the C tier into the B+ tier.
Karma
Karma also had a new mechanic added to her kit, with true vision being added to her W – Focused Resolve. It seemed like a very minor buff, but the tier lists we pulled data from disagreed and ranked her as an A tier support, up from last patch’s B+ grade.
Morgana
Morg got the true vision treatment as well, which was added to her R – Soul Shackles. She’s always been one of the top supports and now is rated in our A+ tier, but it is imperative to note that her A rating last patch was the lowest grade she’s been at since her rework back in Patch 9.5. The buff is probably not affecting her significantly, but she’s as strong as ever.
Poppy
The buff to Poppy’s W – Steadfast Presence was certainly not meant to bring her back into the support meta, but it seems to have done so anyway. Although her pick rate remains below 1% and her win rate actually went down slightly, she’s back on the list for the first time since Patch 9.4.
Alistar
Alistar got some base stat buffs to his mana and mana growth, which had the expected result of giving his early game a nice boost. His win rate improved by a little over 1.5% from last patch and he rose from the D tier to being a C tier pick, almost on the borderline of B tier status.
Bard
His W – Magical Journey getting buffed didn’t seem like a huge deal to Bard, but it proved to be much more impactful to his roaming that many of us (including myself) thought. Bard currently has the best win rate of all supports (53.6%) which is up from the impressive 52% win rate he had in 9.13 despite the fact his pick rate also went up by over 1% in this patch. Unsurprisingly, Bard has risen to the A tier of supports after spending the last eight patches in the B/B+ tiers.
Pyke
Finally, we have Pyke, who got the stun back on minions and monsters on his E – Phantom Undertow, as well as some a buff to his R – Death from Below that gives him a stack of “Your Cut” if the ability kills an enemy (and two stacks if an ally kills someone in the X). His 51.1% win rate in support is the highest it’s been in four patches and Pyke is back to being an S tier pick for the first time in Season 9.
