Observations
Starting at the top of the tier list, Ahri‘s change in our tier list was quite small, but she did drop in terms of win percentage by 0.6%. That’s quite small, so she could be a candidate for a bounce-back rise next patch if her win rate also rebounds.
Checking in on the two boys from Shurima, Xerath also saw a win rate drop in Patch 9.17, by over 1.1% down to 49%. Although Azir‘s win rate didn’t actually dip that much, his 46.4% win rate in Patch 9.17 is third-worst among mid laners. It appears that even after the most recent nerfs he is struggling in Platinum and below (and it’s not as though his pick rate indicates the win rate is dropping due to unfamiliar players performing badly, his pick rate has consistently fallen to below 2%).
On the other hand, Vel’Koz actually saw his win rate rise this patch from 50.7% to 51.9%, yet he fell in our tier list. This could be due to the fact that Vel’Koz’s win rate in mid has been dropping steadily for a few patches now, so sites are rating him a bit lower and he’ll rebound when the win rate data catches up.
Ditto for Mordekaiser, whose win rate has also been falling despite a win rate increase in 9.17 (49.9% to 50.7%). Morgana actually has seen her pick rate fall so low she’s not even listed in the OP.GG mid lane champions roster. That would explain her massive drop in her rating.
That leaves Aatrox, whose win rate has remained flat in 9.17, but it doesn’t appear his ranking is stabilizing from an abnormally high ranking in recent tier lists. Maybe this patch will be the aberration, but time will tell.
