Buffed champions

Aurelion Sol

The Patch 9.17 changes were a bit of a mixed bag, as Riot wanted to make his learning curve a bit more forgiving but also give opponents more opportunity for counterplay in lane. The end result is that his pick rate is so low OP.GG can’t even provide a baseline comparison for his win rate over the last two patches. He did, however, fall from the C tier all the way to the F tier, indicating that Riot probably needs to put some more power into his kit.

Kayle

As we noted in the “Rising” section, the buffs to Kayle’s kit were effective. Riot elected to shift power in her Passive – Divine AscentQ – Radiant BurstE – Starfire Spellblade, and R – Divine Judgement from her late game to give her more laning power.

The result was not only that she returned to the mid lane tier list for the first time since Patch 9.9. However, she is languishing in the F tier right now.

Neeko

The small buff to how Neeko can de-activate her Passive – Inherent Glamour so that she doesn’t have to auto-attack to change back to her true form didn’t appear to do much. Neeko’s mid lane win rate remained stable and she stayed in the C tier.

Pantheon

After a poor but not atrocious 48.9% win rate in Patch 9.16, Riot still elected to give him some power back in his Q – Comet Spear and E – Aegis Assault. The results were massive.

Although Pantheon’s jump from F to D tier in the mid lane doesn’t seem that impressive, his overall jump was actually the equivalent of three tears. Furthermore, his win rate spiked to over 52.6% in 9.17, which is the best win rate among mid laners. Right now, Pantheon might actually be undervalued in our tier list as a mid.

Ryze

Base stat buffs helped Ryze rise to the C tier. It also helped propel his win rate up by 1.1% to 48.9% in Patch 9.17.

Nerfed champions

Qiyana

Although she didn’t start her mid lane status as an overbearing pick (she was D tier last patch with a 49.7% win rate), Riot elected to remove some power due to her strength as a pro play pick. Nerfs to her E – Audacity and R – Supreme Display of Talent didn’t hurt her win rate too much (49.1%) and she actually rose to the B+ tier despite the nerfs. Given how more pros are getting experience playing her effectively in the mid lane and that her win rate didn’t tank massively following the nerfs, she probably is ranked somewhere around this area.
