Understand The Different Types of Support

To keep it simple, lets assume that there are mainly two types of supports; tanky champions who stand out in the front lines and squishy champions who stand toward the back and poke the enemy down.

Now understanding the type of champion you’re playing might sound easy, but as support, you need to know your limits.

If, for example, you decide to play Zyra, you need to understand her weakness and know that you won’t be in the thick of things, but instead, you’ll be poking your opponents down enough for you and the ADC to engage on them.

Other champions like Nautilus or Braum are best played in the front line. You need to protect the ADC and keep your opponents off of them so that they can do most of the poking.

If you don’t know how to handle your role, though, your bottom lane can became a disaster. Playing Sona and staying too far up in lane can result in getting caught out of place and an untimely death, which would then leave your ADC against two opponents.

Likewise, playing a champion like Leona and deciding to stay in the back might cause your ADC to take too much damage and you could quickly find yourself pinned against a tower.

When it comes to playing support, understand the type of support you choose to play and what their strengths and weaknesses are.
