Life and death in Runeterra

Speaking of the Shadow Isles, these comics are certainly an opportunity to further explore the concept of death on Runeterra. At present, the lore states that the Shadow Isles was once a physical place that was overtaken by a malevolent sorcery that plunged the land into shadows. The Black Mist that surrounds the Isles become undead spirits that seek to spread across Runeterra.

But contrast this with a champion on the Shadow Isles like Yorick, who is surrounded by spirits and the Maiden of the Mist, with the goal in life to shepherd trapped spirits into the afterlife. He uses his powers to try and find the “Ruined King” who had cast this sorcery on the Isles in an attempt to resurrect his queen.

This opens up a lot of opportunities to explore what the “afterlife” is in the land of Runeterra, as the Shadow Isles are clear evidence that there is some life after death. There is also a fantastic opportunity to pair this with the story of Mount Targon, where some Gods appear to reside.

Give us more backstory to the Ruined King, the powers of the Shadow Isles, the Gods on Mount Targon, and how they all fit together. Runeterra is a place of conflict between people, yes, but the Gods above, that’s the end game.
