League of Legends – Patch 8.24 Tier List

Underpowered (not at least B tier in one role)
Azir, Corki, Gnar, Kalista, Nautilus, Ornn, Ryze, Sejuani, Skarner, Tahm Kench, Volibear
These champions are all very weak, with four (Nautilus, Ryze, Tahm Kench, and Volibear) ranked in the C or D tier in multiple roles. One other note to make is that there is one champion not technically featured on this list who should be: Trundle.
The reason for this is that Trundle was not considered strong enough to even be ranked in the majority of tier lists for any role. When he was ranked, however, he was consistently ranked in the D tier. Despite the buffs to his Q – Chomp in Patch 8.22, the Troll King is nowhere close to the throne in either the top, jungle, or support roles.
Overpowered (at least A tier in multiple/all roles)
Jax, Camille, Irelia, Lux, Rengar, Yasuo
It’s ironic that in Patch 8.24 three of these champions – Camille, Irelia, and Jax – all received nerfs and are still at the top tiers in multiple positions. In fact, while all three of those champions made appearances in some of the previous patches, the last time any of the other three were touched was in Patch 8.17 when Rengar received a buff to his R. Clearly, Riot may feel these champions are not problematic, but the data and rankings indicate that many would consider them to be very strong picks.
Best Champion in the Game
Lucian (ADC)
As noted above, Lucian is not only the best ADC, he’s the best by the biggest gap between any two champions in any role. Whether this is due to marksmen being weak as a role (it’s doubtful to me, since the entire top five in the bot lane are marksmen) or Lucian just synergizing so well with the early tower-taking meta, if you’re playing ranked and don’t plan to pick Lucian, he’s probably worth a ban.
Worst Champion in the Game
Corki (Mid)
Although we said above that Trundle is so bad he cannot be ranked at all, we do want to draw attention to the worst ranked champion on this list, Corki. It seems very strange since Corki’s mixed damage and early-to-mid game spike should make him a strong pick in this meta. Unfortunately, the Daring Bombardier is not having enough success taking towers even with the ability to shove and spike early with Sheen or Tri-Force. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see this Whiskey Delta get some buffs, along with Trundle who definitely needs it.
Strongest Role
Support
As noted above, supports are doing very well at controlling the bot lane early, enabling their carries to get gold from those tower platings and then control the game into the mid game. It’s not apparent that any one class or support item is dictating the lane like the infamous Ardent Censer meta back in Season 7, although tanks are definitely not shining right now. My guess is that supports are getting too much stats/gold from their support items and could likely use a bit of toning on that front.

Weakest Role
Top
Speaking of tanks being weak, top laners are definitely not having a great time right now unless you’re playing a skirmisher/fighter in the top lane. It’s very monolithic in terms of which classes are succeeding top right now: either juggernauts or fighters (divers or skirmishers). Tanks and mages, by and large, are excluded from the top tiers, largely because of the amount of early game damage in the game.
This is a big problem Riot has not been able to solve when tanks should be at their strongest. Personally, I feel they should spike hardest in the mid-game after a few items. Early, they should have difficulty controlling the lane without jungle assistance, and late game when carries have penetration and crit chance they should fall. But once they have one or two items, tanks should be able to hold towers alone and dictate team fights.
