LCK week one – day four
DWG VS. KT
- Winner: Damwon Gaming
In their first matches against Damwon Gaming, KT decided to mix their roster up a bit, starting Hwang “Kingen” Seong-hoon over Song “Smeb” Kyung-ho in the top lane and Byun “Gango” Se-hoon over Jeon “Zenit” Tae-gwon in the bot lane. KT’s choice to switch up their roster seemed to be a good one during the early phase of Game 1, when a four-man bot dive scored first blood off of Damwon’s bot lane.
As both teams had super aggressive compositions, Game 1 was full of back and forth team fights, each team demonstrating good synergy within the players themselves and their champions. However, Damwon’s fatal Nocturne and Galio combo came out on top, as they consistently deleted KT’s Kalista off the map (despite always having Thresh around with her), and turned team fights around with Nocturne’s ultimate and Galio’s taunts. In a final attempt to sneak away the baron, KT lost all five members for two on the side of Damwon and Damwon successfully ended the game.
Like Game 1, KT also got first blood in Game 2, this time off Canyon’s mispositioned Kha’zix. However, Damwon were able to strike back by claiming first turret and another kill.
As the game progressed, Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon’s Vladimir became more and more threatening, eventually being able to 1v2 himself and bring the game back into Damwon’s favor. After securing a Quadra Kill off of a team fight around baron, Nuguri’s Vlad became unstoppable and effectively won the game for Damwon Gaming.
GRF VS. JAG
- Winner: Griffin
There is honestly not much to say about this series, besides it being a complete stomp from the side of Griffin. With two almost perfect games (giving up only 1 kill and an ocean drake the entire series), Griffin absolutely demolished Jin Air through good champion picks and simply better mechanics. Griffin won the game both times with Ornn support and Lee “Tarzan” Seung-yong showed an outstanding performance on Evelynn in Game 1. He also proved himself on more utility picks as he played Zac in Game 2. By simply snowballing a lead from the early game, it seemed like Griffin didn’t even need a macro strategy to win against Jin Air, securing wins in a dominant fashion during the series.
