LEC 2019: Week 4 Day 1; Float like a Samurai and sting like a Bee
By Michael Salt
Game 3 – Origen vs Rogue
Game 3 for LEC Week 4 is a battle for honor for Origen, we saw the dejected and disheartened Fnatic managing to pull a win out from under Rogue and pull ahead of shared 10th place, Origen cannot lose this. To lose to the last place team, who currently hold a 0-6 record would be utterly humiliating.
It’ll certainly be interesting to see how Chres “Sencux” Laursen is able to handle Nukeduck in the mid lane, Nukeduck’s consistency and controlled aggression should be able to easily take advantage of the Sencux’s recklessness, hopefully, we see Nukeduck pull out another innovative pick like the mid-lane Vayne!
The only part of the map I see Rogue having an edge in is the jungle, and with that maybe they can take the game. Kold has over the last few weeks shown time and time again that he’s the weakest link in the Origen line-up, often lacking direction in the early-mid transition and consequently throwing any early advantages Origen have across to their opponents.
Kikis, on the other hand, has shown specifically during his tenure on Vitality last year, that he can take an objectively weaker team and lead them to victory, not through mechanical superiority but through his macro knowledge and sheer decisiveness. While I do rate him very highly I’m calling this is an Origen win!
Game 4 – Excel Esports vs Fnatic
Game 4 of LEC Week 4 is a battle for Britain’s heart. Two organisations hailing from the Isles load onto the rift and only one walks out victorious. Old stalwart Fnatic, despite their rough start, will look to fend off the hunger of new bloods Excel, and boy are we in for one hell of a fight!
That being said, neither of these teams look massively impressive coming in, Fnatic took a win over the weakest team in the league and Excel (despite taking a game off of Misfits) remain extremely inconsistent, especially with Exile in the mid lane. Expect continues to come up clutch with the smite-steals and the precise Rumble ultimates. My only concern with Expect is his champion pool which seems more and more limited as the weeks go on. Considering he’s coming up against Fnatic’s top laner Bwipo, Expect is really going to need to show us something more than Urgot, Sion or Rumble.
As long as Fnatic unlock bottom lane for Rekkles and Hylissang to go wild across the map, this will be a Fnatic win!
Game 5 – G2 Esports vs Team Vitality
Okay, guys, this is the big one! G2 walk into this match with everything to lose, they don’t want to lose the honor of being the undefeated gods of the LEC and Vitality throughout the years have been known as kingslayers.
Mid lane is where the majority of the hype for this match revolves around, Caps vs Jiizuke will be an absolute sight to behold in the mid lane. Give both of them some playmaking assassins and watch the carnage unfold. I hope to see something like Caps on Yasuo and Jiizuke on Leblanc!
On the bottom side of the map, we’ve got the two most aggressive bot-lane duos in the LEC fighting it out for dominance. I really hope we see Mikyx and Jactroll on some hyper-aggressive picks like Thresh, Pyke and Alistar! Pair those with Perkz and Atilla on the likes of Lucian or Draven and we’re likely going to see a first blood announcement some time in the 5-minute region. Then like clockwork, we’ll see the rest of the game snowball out of control for a sub 25-minute win.
Just because I like to make spicy predictions and I hope we’ll see G2 put through their paces, so I’m going to call this a Vitality win!
Think G2 will go for the clean 18-0 in Spring? Or will Rogue actually win vs Origen? Let us know and join the conversation in the comments below!
