Cloud 9 vs. Echo Fox

If Cloud 9 are hurt by the departure of Jensen they haven’t been dwelling on it as they currently find themselves as the sole holders of second place with a record of 4-2. They’re coming off an undefeated week and are looking to keep their momentum going by making quick work of Echo Fox. Echo Fox are the latest victims of the 1-1 curse as they’ve registered both a victory and a loss every week so far, this is a reflection of their inconsistency.

The inconsistency of Echo Fox is a reflection of their roster, Lee “Rush” Yoon-jae has long been known as an aggressive “feast or famine” player and things haven’t changed. Rush looks great at times but clueless at other times. Kim “Fenix” Jae-hun is a similar player, he is famous for his hype plays but he can also struggle to make an impact in the game. Cloud 9 is a dynasty in North American League of Legends and their roster looks like one of the best in the league despite losing their star mid laner to Team Liquid. Zachary “Sneaky” Scuderi is as reliable as ever and Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen has been really impressive lately as well.

So who will win match three of LCS Week 4? I think it will be Cloud 9 purely because they are a more cohesive team which comes as a result of the longevity of the core of their roster. They are also a more creative team, they have shown they are capable of bailing themselves out of sticky situations through creative shot-calling, Echo Fox are much more likely to just crumble if things start going wrong.

Prediction: Cloud 9

100 Thieves vs FlyQuest

These two teams are coming off opposite weeks. FlyQuest looked like a top team briefly but this notion was quickly extinguished last week when they lost to both Echo Fox and Team Liquid. 100 Thieves, on the other hand, looked like they would struggle this split before they underwent a full transformation, defeating CLG and Clutch emphatically. A particular teamfight in their game against CLG had AD Carry Bang shouting out “This is Bang!” as he and his team triumphed.

It had all been looking so good for FlyQuest after week two. They only dropped a single game and went into week three with a 3-1 record. It was no surprise to anyone that they were outclassed by Team Liquid but their real collapse occurred in their game against Echo Fox. Despite a very good performance from Lucas “Santorin” Tao Kilmer Larsen FlyQuest fell victim to a classic baron throw, rounding out their miserable 0-2 week. 100 Thieves started the LCS very poorly which had many people doubting the quality of talent on the team but after two comfortable victories, they may have silenced some of their doubters.

I think 100 Thieves will take match four of LCS Week 4. Both of these teams are capable of winning but what 100 Thieves displayed last week has made me a believer in Bang and his team. If FlyQuest allows the Thieves to pay around their all-star AD Carry then their bottom lane will find the game very tough.

Prediction: 100 Thieves

Clutch Gaming vs. Counter Logic Gaming

An even bigger collapse than the one we saw from FlyQuest last week is Clutch Gaming’s recent form. After going undefeated in the opening week of the LCS, Clutch haven’t registered a single win since. We called their week one dominance “surprising” considering their roster but it now looks they will struggle this split after all. Counter Logic Gaming (CLG) seems to have found their footing in the LCS and if they continue on this solid path then they will be a prime candidate for one of the lower playoff spots.

Clutch looked helpless in their match against 100 Thieves as Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho embarrassed them with his Urgot play. They didn’t look any better against Cloud 9 who outplayed them in every metric. CLG has been steadily improving since their first game and they seem to have finally settled on their top/jungle duo of Darshan “Darshan” Upadhyaya and Raymond “Wiggily” Griffin. It’s not a roster that lit their fans’ hearts on fire but once they develop their synergy and more firmly establish their identity they will develop into a strong team.

Game five of LCS Week 4 should be a comfortable win for CLG. Clutch only got as far as they did thanks to miraculous plays from Tanner “Damonte” Damonte. CLG have better team cohesion and debatably better players full stop in some positions. Unless something goes horribly wrong for CLG, they should start LCS Week 4 with a win.

Prediction: Counter Logic Gaming
