After an incredible Week 5 of Korean pro-play where Griffin continued winning, how does the LCK look and for which teams will playoffs only remain a dream?

As the fifth week of the LCK concluded we hit halftime and both teams and fans will begin to be concerned about playoffs (unless you’re Griffin). Though, just looking at the current standings can be tricky as some teams definitely have the potential to still reach that desired spot despite a negative record. It’s time to hand out some mid-season grades for all 10 LCK teams.

10. Jin Air Green Wings (D)

Being at rock bottom of the League, Jin Air is standing without any wins, hopes or even dreams of playoffs. They are individually outclassed, their team play is frankly not existent and the meta does not suit them at all as games are very high-paced and little mistakes can lose the whole match. All they can or should do at this point is trying out new strategies and give substitution players some game time to practice with.

9. KT Rolster (C-)

It truly is disappointing to see a squad including the likes of Smeb, BDD and Score (to just name the most famous ones) that far down in the list. This year’s LCK has put a much higher ceiling on teams as the new organizations joined the League with a completely different style which works out well for them. Do not get excited about this organization but recall that great players can achieve great things.

8. Afreeca Freecs (C)

By looking at their last few matches one can tell it is not going well for this team in the LCK. All of their recent losses have been 0-2 which is a horrible statistic for future ties. This squad highly prefers playing a slow, coordinated game sticking to the coaches handbook, however, this does not work out in this meta anymore, especially when having the likes of Griffin in your League. They do have the potential to adapt keeping in mind that this roster is stacked with experienced veterans but time is running out for them.

7. Gen G. (C+)

The former world champion team is not existent anymore and so is their dominant performance in the LCK. They do still have incredible players but it seems like the synergy is lacking here. Often times players are not on the same page and individual class might help against a squad like Jin Air but League of Legends remains a strategical team based game which shows against the real contenders. I can see them winning against some of the higher placed teams but even if they accomplish that, playoffs will give Gen G. a very troublesome time.
