#4 – Season 8 – present Team Liquid

Since the fall-off of the last great TSM squad, Team Liquid has been on an absolute tear, and seem to be nowhere near slowing down.

They blasted through both Spring and Summer 2018, taking first during the regular seasons and sweeping aside their competition in consecutive 3-0 matches during Playoffs. And though their record was nowhere near as dominant as the C9 or TSM squads of the past, TL’s ability to hold onto strong players and upgrade their roster has allowed them to stay on top of the scene for an unprecedented length of time.

They seem poised to take the Regular season again this year, with a notable upgrade in their mid lane. However, this very upgrading is why we can’t really discuss this team as a single squad.

I’m willing to look the other way when Doublelift retired from TSM for a few weeks. However, TL has changed and upgraded their squad every split since they first hoisted the cup in Spring of 2018. If the contest were looking at a single organization, TL would easily be in the running for their continued dominance during the stiff competition of the Franchising era.

However, as each squad has changed and evolved, the inconsistency of the rosters makes it difficult to pinpoint one variation that is stronger than the last. Further, their continued lack of international success fails to push these squads over the rest of their competition.

Unfortunately, this last mutation, which includes (arguably) the strongest regional players in mid, bot and jungle, can’t be correctly evaluated, as they haven’t yet finished their season.

Accomplishments:

  • 1st Place, 2018 Spring Regular Season
  • 1st Place, 2018 Spring Playoffs
  • 1st Place, 2018 Summer Regular Season (different roster)
  • 1st Place, 2018 Summer Playoffs
  • 7-1 record for 2019 Spring Regular Season (different roster)
