5. FC Schalke 04 (7-7)

Schalke is in the same boat as Fnatic as to next weekend. They get a game against a team they’re tied with, Misfits, and one they should win against ExceL.

It’s going to be critical to win these games after going 0-2 last weekend. Although they lost to two good teams in Fnatic and Splyce, they’re generally still able to beat the teams they’re favored against, which bodes well as they take on two teams below them in the standings next week.

4. Splyce (8-6)

Splyce will really be kicking themselves for losing that game against Origen, as a win would have put Splyce firmly in third place, rather than tied. Given that they’re facing G2 – an almost certain loss – and SK Gaming – in which they are favored but is by no means a gimme – Having that couple of game cushion over the rest of the pack would have been massive.

3. Origen (8-6)

Origen is streaking up the power rankings after taking two wins against two of the top four teams last weekend. As mentioned, beating Splyce put them right back at the top of the food chain, but their impressive win over Vitality really assured that Origen has an easy path to the LEC playoffs. This weekend, they’ll face SK Gaming and Rogue, so they’ll likely add at least one more win and maybe lock up a playoff spot.

2. Vitality (9-5)

Vitality fell to the streaking Origen, but at least managed to beat down Misfits to keep separation from the pack. Their two-game cushion over the other four teams at 7-7 is crucial because they have still not yet played ExceL or Rogue, so it’s not unlikely that they’ll end the season with at least 11 wins. Those 7-7 teams will basically have to win out to overtake Vitality, meaning playoffs are all but certain for them.

1. G2 Esports (12-2)

Best team in Europe, even though they lost to SK Gaming. In all honesty, this game snowballed out of control when Perkz got caught out at dragon pit around the 28-minute mark. From there, G2 was forced into a fight with disadvantaged numbers at baron, then tried to have Caps split push to stop the bleeding.

Unfortunately, the rest of the team couldn’t hold SK back long enough for Caps to end, leading to the loss. It’s unfortunate that G2 fell due to macro mistakes like this, stemming from Perkz getting caught out uncharacteristically. But it shows that G2 is their own worst enemy, as they had almost a 10k gold lead at the point the game started to swing the other way.
