For all the hype and excitement, for all the close fights and clutch moments in their magnificent series against C9, Dignitas couldn’t maintain their momentum through the weeks off, and lost a devastating 3-0 against Flyquest – a team who had themselves been trending towards the dumpster on the end of their Summer Split – in the first round of the League of Legends Gauntlet.

No one has ever figured out what had been going on with the organization in this last chapter of the season, but such a strong squad had never looked so weak.

This was the end of Dignitas, though we didn’t know it at the time. By the time 2018 rolled around – complete with its fresh new Franchising look – Dignitas was not invited back into the North American League of Legends Championship Series.

And after the rollercoaster ride of the Dignitas name – from contenders to the likes of TSM in the primordial days of North America, to fun-loving goon squad of Imaqtpie and KiWiKiD, to this last, final gasp of life in their 2017 season – there was something incredibly bittersweet in their quiet retirement.

The clamor of the battle over, Dignitas passed like an exhausted warrior, their casket lowered into the dirt while a single trumpet echoing Taps a field away.
