Impact looked good in TL’s victory over FlyQuest, but after Sergen “Broken Blade” Çelik’s performance versus Cloud 9’s first team all-pro top laner Eric “Licorice” Ritchie, it looks like the top lane will be a mismatch between TSM and TL. Going into the Cloud9 and TSM series, many analysts predicted that Licorice would stomp Broken Blade and TSM’s strategy of playing through top lane would not work versus a top talent like Licorice.

Broken Blade was able to shock everyone by picking up a solo kill in lane and having a bigger impact than Licorice on the series as a whole. While Impact looked good on carries versus FlyQuest, he will not be able to repeat that performance versus Broken Blade.

I’ve been fairly vocal that Impact has been one of the worst top laners in the LCS during the regular season. That said, his statistics – particularly his damage per minute and share, KDA, and gold difference at 15 – were vastly improved during Liquid’s 3-0 sweep of FlyQuest.

However, Impact got the benefit of laning against Omran “V1per” Shoura, who was also one of the bottom-tier top laners in the LCS last year. This weekend, Impact will have to face off with Broken Blade, who consistently outperformed him statistically this season. Yes, Impact has the experience advantage which should give him a mental edge over Broken Blade, but even with the playoff buff I’ll put my money on Broken Blade.

If there’s ever a time for Impact to step up and make…an impact, it’s now. Broken Blade has already proven to be an excellent signing for Team SoloMid, instantly cementing his place as the third best top laner in the LCS All-Pro teams. If given the opportunity, “BB” could rule the roost on the top side of the map.

I don’t think Impact will allow that to happen, especially after seeing Broken Blade’s performance against Cloud9. Despite his relatively underwhelming regular season, my money is on the former world champion to nullify any threat presented by the top-jungle duo of TSM and create an anchor for Team Liquid to play around.
