It’s been a while since Riot’s last champion roadmap came out, but today we’ve finally got our preview for what’s next in League of Legends character releases.

League of Legends is nothing without its colorful cast of champions, and Riot knows how much we love seeing who’s next to join the game. Today’s Champion Roadmap article gave us plenty of insight into the currently-in-progress reworks and releases, and announced the future of champion releases for the next few months.

Upcoming Reworks: Mordekaiser, Pantheon

First and foremost, Riot announced that they’re swinging the pendulum back towards more new champions versus VGUs. With Mordekaiser getting out of the way Soon (TM), Riot’s finally run out of champions that need a full update, hence the switch. We’ll be able to expect more new champs in the future, and hopefully some smaller updates to existing characters in the meantime.

And speaking of smaller updates, Riot’s also announced that their next rework will be none other than Pantheon, the Artisan of War. Panth is the last of the pizza-feet champions and desperately could use a rework to modernize both his kit and his appearance. One particularly telling line from the announcement is that Pantheon’s rework will come with a story about “how one man fought back against the gods” – it seems likely that Atreus, the Pantheon’s current host, may not be fully lost to their influence.

Besides Pantheon, Riot discussed the Mordekaiser rework a little more. The Iron Revenant is having every aspect of his kit replaced or updated, and his old ultimate is almost assuredly getting removed. According to the post, Morde’s ult will be “something that [will] make his enemies truly fear and respect Morde, with nowhere to run or hide from his indomitable malice.” I’d guess that it’ll be an altered-state ultimate a la Riven or Vayne that makes Morde immune to crowd control, but we’ll have to wait for the full rework to be announced before we’ll know for certain.
