Buffed champions

Blitzcrank
This was “technically” a buff for Blitz, since it replaced the old passive on his ult with a brand new one, and made his passive just plain better. However, as I noted above, it hasn’t had the intended effect.

For my money, I think the bonus passive damage on his ult should just be straight on his passive (swap it with his current mana shield passive) because it incentivizes Blitz to use his ult basically off cooldown. Otherwise, I think he needs a rework to his ult active or W abilities. Despite Riot’s goal, he’s still almost entirely dependent on whether he can hit a hook to be useful.

Nerfed champions

Soraka
We discussed her drop on our tier list thanks to the nerfs above, but I want to cut ahead to a question that will likely be asked about a later tier list. No, solo lane Soraka has not joined our top or mid tier lists. It’s not out of prejudice or not wanting to encourage that toxic type of play (though I 100% do), it’s because, simply, no tier list or site that we audited ranked “reworked” Soraka as a solo laner at all.

Tahm Kench
The Kench has been unbenched, as we discussed above. The extra nerf to his shield and ult to compensate his Devour becoming basically a self CC makes sense to have helped him in solo queue, where there is less coordination and Tahm Kenches rarely use the ability to save allies. I’m more interested to see how this impacts his pro play standing because it’s there that his ability to quickly save allies was being used effectively.

Morgana
Discussed above, but yeah the nerfs to her Black Shield definitely worked their black magic. She’s not an S tier support anymore but she’s certainly strong, especially into a pick like Nautilus who has shot up our rankings. Nerfed Black Shield or not, she has an incredibly easy time counter Naut’s very telegraphed all-in pattern and ult.
