Buffed champions

Janna

We said in the Patch 9.11 breakdown that the buffs to Janna could turn out to be too much and boy howdy were we right on that. Janna skyrocketed in this patch following those buffs. Her win rate stayed the same, yes, but her pick rate went to its highest in five patches, up to over 6%.

Seeing a champion’s win rate not move when her pick rate increases by 50% is a bit alarming, but not near as alarming as the effect they had on the players having to face them. With the buff to her W – Zephyr‘s cooldown, she can output almost 200 more damage per minute in lane than she could one patch earlier. And that’s despite the damage on that ability getting nerfed!

In addition, in the late game her E – Eye of the Storm is basically always up because she can refund the cooldown anytime she CCs an opponent (which she can do with all of her other abilities). In the late game, then, she is unkillable or – worse – makes her carries unkillable.

Nerfed champions

Galio

Riot’s goal with the Patch 9.11 nerfs to Galio was to make him less of a dominant support and more viable as a mid laner. However, most people who have been watching noticed that Galio has only been a strong support in coordinated play, thanks to his easy to land CC and his semi-global ult to save his carries. In solo queue, however, Galio has never been much above a B tier support and his win rate never got much higher than 48%.

By taking damage off his W – Shield of Durand and E – Justice Punch, Riot basically killed support Galio in solo queue. And the worst part (as we’ll see in our coming mid lane tier list), the changes haven’t even made him viable in the mid lane.
