5. KT Rolster (2-2)

Speaking of KT, how much better have they looked in summer with the addition of PraY? Yes, it’s not hard to look better than the team that finished second-to-last in spring, but so far this team definitely looks like they have improved.

Their statistics aren’t going to make anyone jump out of their seats, by any means, and they got two “freebie” wins by getting to play Jin Air (but ask SKT just how free those wins are). Still, KT may actually be a competitive team this year.

4. Afreeca Freecs (3-3)

Ending the first week of play 3-3 may not seem like an accomplishment. But when you’re playing SKT and Griffin in Week 1, you take that and run with it. Afreeca may not have shown anything spectacular, and were probably lucky to get a win off slumping SKT, but they’re in a good spot for now.

3. Griffin (4-1)

Controversial, I know, but this is more about how Sandbox performed in Week 1 than Griffin. I fully expect the team that dominated spring and is still posting incredible stats (they’re top two in almost every category) to be the best team in LCK by the end of the split.

2. Sandbox Gaming (2-2)

However, can we appreciate for a moment how well Sandbox did in Week 1? Right now, they have the highest percent of gold per game earned, the largest average gold lead at 15 (over 3k gold, which is bonkers), 100% of first towers and first three towers taken in their games, and taking 75% of dragons in their games?

Those stats are damn impressive, and I don’t think they should be punished for only being 2-2. Hanwha Life aren’t exactly the stiffest of competition, but Sandbox handled them easily. On the other hand, losing to Kingzone in two games really shouldn’t be held against them because…

1. Kingzone DragonX (4-0)

Holy hell has this team been impressive through four games. Not only did they sweep both of their series, they have an incredible team KDA of over 3.00 (for reference, the next-closest team’s KDA is Griffin with 1.53). This team also runs over games, even though some of their other stats aren’t as massively impressive.

Their average game time in wins (which is all of their games) is just above 30 minutes. The second-best time to victory in LCK is Griffin, but their average is just under 33 minutes. This means that not only is Kingzone able to get ahead in games (although their average gold lead at 15 is just above 50, which isn’t that eye-popping) and close them out quickly through superior skirmishing.
