League of Legends Champion Profile: Sivir, the Battle Mistress
Lanes Sivir Players Love
Ezreal – A similar auto attack range and a whole host of abilities to be blocked by Sivir’s Spell Shield makes Ezreal the perfect lane match-up for the Shuriman marksman. Ezreal isn’t too strong in the early game so Sivir has a chance to come out on top in the laning phase. Focus on pushing sneaking an auto attack or two in whenever he looks to kill a minion and use Boomerang Blades when he’s out of position or has recently used his E – Arcane Shift. Spell Shielding his Mystic Shots throughout the laning phase will keep your mana topped up and available to push out waves for better back timings or map control.
Kalista – Kalista’ auto attack range is only 25 greater than Sivir’s, which is hardly noticeable. On top of that Kalista’s passive makes it difficult for skillshot based ADCs to land their abilities, but most of Sivir’s damage comes from auto attacks, so she’ll have no problem dealing damage to her opponent in the laning phase. A trick Kalista players like to use during the lane is using their E – Rend on a dying minion and a champion at the same time to get the reset and the damage. However, this can be easily read and predicted so using this as an opportunity to Spell Shield can result in some bonus mana without risk of being engaged on.
Varus – This one is pretty simple to understand. Varus loves to poke and/or finish off enemies using his Q – Piercing Arrow throughout the laning phase, but this can easily be denied with a well timed Spell Shield. Reducing Varus’ damage to just auto attacks gives Sivir a slight edge in the laning phase and the opportunity to scale into the later stages.
Lanes Sivir Players Hate
Alistar – If you’ve played this match-up before you’ll know how difficult it is to deal with. Sivir’s Spell Shield can only block one ability, but Alistar’s Headbutt-Pulverize combo consists of two abilities, so completely negates the impact of Spell Shield. Not only that, Alistar’s Headbutt is always in range of Sivir if she is looking to auto attack him, so she’s always vulnerable. In short, never pick Sivir into Alistar.
Twitch – Twitch has a 50 range advantage over Sivir, so he’ll often be able to auto attack her without reply. Most of Twitch’s damage also comes from auto attacks and instantaneous abilities which renders Sivir’s Spell Shield rather useless. While Sivir wants to scale, Twitch wants to delete her at level 6 using his Q – Ambush and R – Spray and Pray to catch her completely off guard and secure kills. This makes it extremely difficult for Sivir to survive the early game.
Vayne – Similarly, Vayne has a range advantage and difficult to block abilities. Once again, the target for Sivir in this match-up is to survive and avoid 2v2s if possible, instead looking to utilise opportunities for ganks from her jungler. Avoid engages using Spell Shield and look to poke Vayne with Boomerang Blade and maybe you’ll get out with a slight lead.
Tips for Playing Sivir
- Boomerang Blade does a surprising amount of damage in the early game so using it to its full effect in the laning phase could lead to some early kills. Ensure it hits enemy champions twice to maximise damage, possibly by hitting it at max range so the damage is doubled instantly with no room to dodge.
- Use Spell Shield intelligently. Don’t spam it at every opportunity, don’t save it for the last second. Finding the right balance with such an impactful ability is difficult but could be the difference between a won and lost game. In lane, it’s important to maintain high mana but also essential to avoid engages. As for teamfights, using Spell Shield on the most important engage tools from the enemy team is key to success.
- In teamfights, targeting the closest champion rather than a priority target is often an okay option due to the damage from Ricochet. Not only will auto attacks jump to nearby enemies, but they’ll also crit, so the damage could prove to be massive in close-quarters teamfights.
Tips for Playing Against Sivir
- Her short range makes her vulnerable at all stages of the game. Engage on her.
- Sivir is very mana dependent in the early game and this can be punished. Before she gets her Essence Reaver, look to fight as she’ll either die or not have enough mana to stay in the game anyway. Just be weary that she can stop any engage in its tracks using her Spell Shield.
- Pick Alistar.
Champion Difficulty: 6/10
As mentioned early, if you’ve mastered one marksman you’ve mastered them all, but not when that marksman has a miniscule auto attack range of 500. Right clicking isn’t a difficult task but maintaining decent positioning in skirmishes and teamfights is the key difference between a good Sivir and a great Sivir. Timing her E – Spell Shield and R – On the Hunt can often be the difference between the perfect AD Carry and one that is unable to carry their team over the line.
