XL Mystiques
When Mystiques joined up with the Excel Esports main roster during the Spring Split, nobody really paid any attention as they were a struggling team and a support substitution would do nothing to solve that. In Summer, the Polish support player has slowly secured the starting position with impressive performances in what seems like a turnaround split for Excel.
Originally dismissed as a Thresh one-trick, Patryk “Mystiques” Piórkowski has gone from strength to strength in recent weeks as his team have continued to grow and develop synergy. After almost taking down Origen on Friday, the Excel support pulled out the Tahm Kench for a Player of the Game award and Excel’s first win of the Summer Split.
MSF Gorilla
Misfits are struggling in the LEC at the moment, with only two wins so far against Excel Esports and Rogue. Without a win since Week 2, Misfits’ misery was worsened when they fell to Team Vitality on Sunday and were rooted to 9th place in the standings. 2015 World Championship runner-up, Beom-hyun “Gorilla” Kang has had a mixed start in Europe, but has always looked like one of the more capable members of the Misfits line-up.
In Week 4, Gorilla brought out Nautilus and Lux to varying success. Against G2 Esports, he and his team struggled and were completely dismantled by the current defending LEC champions. On Day 2 they faced Team Vitality and, despite a strong laning phase, Misfits collapsed under the pressure of Jiizuke‘s Ekko and Vitality’s constant teamfight. There’s no doubt that Misfits must make changes if they want to be in with a chance of clinching playoffs at the conclusion of the Summer Split.
