League of Legends Patch 9.14 tier list aggregation – top lane edition
By Josh Tyler
New Additions
Malzahar
His pick rate in the top lane hasn’t moved from the last few patches (top lane Malzahar actually has over a 4% pick rate) and his win rate has remained steady. His presence on our tier list seems to be more or less a function of whether the tier lists we use decide to put him on their list. More of a niche pick than anything.
Heimerdinger
On the other hand, Heimerdinger actually seems to be popping up more often in tier lists where he was left out previously. He has one of the worst top lane pick rates of any champion (under 1%) but his win rate did spike in Patch 9.14 from 49.8% to 51.7%.
Viktor
Similar to Malzahar, his pick rate and win rate hasn’t really changed. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s not here next patch.
Qiyana
The newest champion added to League of Legends, Qiyana makes here BoL tier list debut. She’s definitely a champion with a very steep learning curve, so it’s no surprise that, even a full patch after her release, she’s struggling a bit in solo queue.

Rising Champions
Aatrox (A to A+ tier)
First up in our category of “unintended consequences” of Patch 9.14, we have Aatrox. When Riot removed the revive from his kit, they intended for it to be a nerf. Sure, they gave him some power back in his healing, but that was just to compensate.
Of course, the compensation they gave Aatrox just made him into even more of a dominant lane bully. Now, although his win rate and pick rate are largely unchanged from Patch 9.13, the fact that those numbers haven’t changed despite that big aspect of his kit getting reworked just shows how strong Aatrox got in his laning.
Kled (A to A+ tier)
Renekton (A to A+ tier)
Illaoi (A to A+ tier)
The effects of those buffs she got back in Patch 9.13 are still being felt here in Patch 9.14. Her win rate has remained consistently at 51.3% since the buffs with a pick rate hovering around 5%.
Vladimir (B+ to A+ tier)
Vlad didn’t get any buffs and his win rate didn’t shoot up, yet he’s shot up to his highest ranking since Patch 9.6. Perhaps this is a response to the fact that so many tank top laners got buffed, but I don’t know how sustainable it is for Vlad to be one of the OP top laners.
Garen (B+ to A tier)
Garen is just always one of those consistent good, but not great, picks in the top lane. His win rate hasn’t moved above 51-52% in several patches, so this ranking movement is likely due to us including a new site’s rankings this time.
Kennen (B+ to A tier)
Fiora (B+ to A tier)
No, this isn’t Teamfight Tactics Fiora, who did get buffed in Patch 9.14. Summoners Rift Fiora didn’t get any changes and her win rate has been stable. The only reason I could think for her being rated so highly is that she does do well into one of the top picks, Mordekaiser.
Teemo (B to B+ tier)
Teemo’s rise in Patch 9.14 is more of a function of his ranking being stabilized than anything actually changing. He dropped to the B tier from B+ tier in Patch 9.13 and has now returned after that blip. Throughout all three patches, his win rate has remained solidly above 50%.
Tryndamere (B to B+ tier)
On the other hand, Tryndamere has been gaining traction as a power pick in the last few patches and it seems the sites around the internet are starting to take notice. In Patch 9.13, his win rate jumped over 2% from 49.3% to 51.4%, and it has remained solidly at that rate in 9.14.
Rumble (B to B+ tier)
Like Fiora, it’s pretty unclear as to why Rumble has risen in popularity. We’ll keep any eye to see if his ranking stabilizes going forward.
Pantheon (C to B+ tier)
Pantheon’s win rate actually dropped in Patch 9.14, but I think this rise in the rankings is more due to stabilizing from an uncharacteristic drop last patch. He was rated a C tier pick in 9.13, which is probably a tad bit too low.
Rengar (C to B+ tier)
No, this isn’t due to any hype after Bwipo brought out the pick last week in the LEC. He’s another champion who does well into Mordekaiser, but Rengar’s win rate has been quite stable.
Poppy (C to B tier)
Shen (C to B tier)
One of the many tanks who saw their win rate get a modest spike in Patch 9.14, Shen’s jumped to just over 51%. No direct buffs or nerfs to him, just a general statement that tanks seem to be a bit stronger in this patch.
Volibear (C to B tier)
A similar story to Shen, but Volibear actually is notable because he has the second-best win rate of all top laners (53.7%) and a stable pick rate. That’s almost a 2% improvement from last patch.
Neeko (C to B tier)
Quinn (C to B tier)
Oh, you hit up all those ranged top laners, Riot, but you forgot about the OG annoying ranged top laner. Without any other ranged tops to contend with, Quinn’s win rate has jumped 0.7% in Patch 9.14 and she’s showing a lot of promise into some of the best top laners like Jax.
Jayce (D to B tier)
Vayne (D to C tier)
Another ranged top laner, Vayne’s win rate also got a modest boost in 9.14, going up by 0.5%. She’s still around the same win rate, but I think she’s firmly in the “worse version of Quinn top” role.
Swain (D to C tier)
Ornn (D to C tier)
Another tank who is doing better, Ornn actually had a massive win rate improvement in this patch from 48.7% to 50.8%. Another sign that the tank meta is coming upon us.
Gnar (D to C tier)
Another sign is the fact that Gnar, who got buff after buff earlier in the season, has started to become a more powerful and relevant pick.
Sylas (F to D tier)
Falling Champions
Urgot (A to B+ tier)
Irelia (B+ to B tier)
With a win rate of 46% in solo queue, Irelia has long been trending downward as a “power” pick. Her win rate didn’t drop off that hard from 9.13, but she definitely doesn’t like the fact that one of her tougher matchups – Kled – has become a high priority pick.
Nasus (B+ to B tier)
Another champion who didn’t get any direct nerfs, Nasus’s win rate actually rose by 1.5% in Patch 9.14, so I think this drop in the aggregated rankings may not be accurate. However, champions let Kled getting anti-healing in the top lane definitely doesn’t make D Cane happy, especially since Kled was one of his worst lanes.
Yasuo (C to D tier)
With a win rate just above 48% that’s been stable for a few patches, Yasuo’s been in the basement of our tier list for several patches now. I’m sure all those people who wrote him letters on Friday are dismayed.
Tahm Kench (A to D tier)
