Buffed champions

Swain

He got, arguably, the biggest change to his kit in Patch 9.14, with his ult and passive basically getting reworked to be a bit more like old Swain. As a result, he’s returned to our top lane tier list for the first time since Patch 9.5. Even though his win rate dropped to 47% in this patch, which put him in our D tier, his pick rate spiked from 0.5% to 3.6%.

Renekton

He was already a strong pick in the meta before Riot selected him to be one of the recipients of the new shield-breaker ability (now on his empowered W – Ruthless Predator). His win rate didn’t noticeably increase in 9.14, but he now boasts the #1 pick rate of all top laners (13.8%) and is rated an A+ pick in the top lane.

Poppy

Another champion who got a new mechanic added to his kit, Poppy’s W – Steadfast Presence now grounds enemies if she stops them from dashing. Both her win rate and pick rate improved modestly, and she rose a tier in our rankings as a result.

Kled

Discussed a lot with regards to why some champions fell, Kled had the ridiculous 60% Grievous Wounds put on his Q – Beartrap on a Rope. This not only pushed him into the A+ tier for top laners, but it also pushed him to the third-best win rate.

Malphite

Malphite got a mini-rework in Patch 9.14 and rose in the aggregated tier list as a result. Since his win rate actually dropped, though, it will be interesting to see if the tier ranking drops or if the low win rate is just a function of players learning his reworked kit.

Urgot

His buff was quite minor (just rebalancing the recast time on the toggle of his W – Purge to be in line with other toggle abilities) but it didn’t save Urgot from dropping in our tier list. Considering his win rate actually went up by over 1.3%, I’m going to guess a lot of people thought the shield breaker changes would hurt him more than they did.

Ryze

Ryze is still finding his place in the meta after his billionth semi-rework in Patch 9.13. However, he’s still a D tier champion in Patch 9.14 and sits at a 48.6% win rate.

Nerfed champions

Kennen

Although Riot was trying to take some power out of Kennen and the other premiere ranged top laners, Kenne’s ranking actually rose. Considering that his win rate did actually drop (from 51.3% to 50.6%) I think the ranking is going to drop in the coming patch.

Jayce

Similarly, Jayce’s ranking went up in Patch 9.14 after he received some nerfs to his laning. His win rate didn’t move from where it was previously, but it’s still an unimpressive 48.4%.

Neeko

The last of the ranged top laners to get toned back, Neeko didn’t actually move in our tier list, remaining a B tier pick. However, her win rate dropped by over 1% indicating that the nerfs probably were successful.

Aatrox
Sylas

Although Sylas got some nerfs, he seems to be doing quite well in the top lane based on the aggregated rankings and in terms of win rate. That said, I wouldn’t consider him too strong given he’s D tier with a win rate below 49%.

Mordekaiser

The nerfs definitely hurt Mordekaiser but not enough to take him out of that A+ tier. However, his win rate did fall massively in Patch 9.14, from 52.2% to 49.7%, so I doubt he’ll remain this high for very long.

Akali

The attempts to balance Akali continue as Riot elected to remove the obscurity from her W – Twilight Shroud and make it invisibility so she can be tracked with things like red sweeper. She also got number changes to her other abilities. Ultimately, her win rate remained stable and her ranking improved slightly, although she remained in D tier.

Tahm Kench

Finally, we have good old Tahmas Kench, who Riot said they were trying to make a bit fairer to play against by making his passive stacks fall off after being consumed and nerfing the hitbox on his Q – Tongue Lash.

The result has been that his win rate dropped by 2.3% to 46.4% and he fell in our tier list from A tier to D tier. The Kench has been rebenched.
