With information on the PBE that suggests two new champions are coming to Teamfight Tactics, we look at the possible League of Legends champions we could be seeing in the Arena.
Even though Twisted Fate has only been a unit in Teamfight Tactics for a week, we may be getting not one, but two new champions joining him very soon. That’s right, information on the PBE seems to suggest that Riot is going to be adding two new League of Legends champions – one Brawler and one Shapeshifter – to Teamfight Tactics. Per an article from Dotesports:
"Riot change[d] the number of champs and tiers needed to activate the Brawler bonus. Now it has three tiers, for two, four, and six champions that provide 300, 700, and 1,200 additional health when active. Something similar happened to Shapeshifters, who now have two tiers, at three and six champions, that provide 60 and 120 percent health respectively upon transforming.More from EditorialsWhy It’s VETHEO’s fault that Excel are 1-5?!?3 Tips to Rank Up in Season 13The LCK is the Premier League SceneLooking at Excel’s New Roster Ahead of 2023 LEC WinterWorlds 2022 Group Stage Tier ListBut there are only five Brawlers and five Shapeshifters in Teamfight Tactics. Since the Golden Spatula can’t turn any champion into either of these two, this change likely means that at least one new champion is coming to the game soon to fill in these spots."
The article does note that it is possible that this synergy could be solved by adding one single champion: Udyr. He would potentially be a Wild/Shapeshifter/Brawler but I’m a bit skeptical, just because in League of Legends Udyr doesn’t change his form to one state or another, but one of four, so mimicking that in TFT might create added RNG to the game. Instead, here are a few champions that we could see added to fill either the Shapeshifter or Brawler slots that seem to be getting filled soon.
Illaoi (Pirate/Brawler/Shapeshifter)
Illaoi is one of the champions we were hoping to see come to Teamfight Tactics, and honestly, I could see her enter the fray in either the Brawler or Shapeshifter form or even both. Illaoi’s playstyle in League of Legends is to be very much a bruiser, getting in and doing damage while still being sturdy, which fits the Brawler archetype.
Shapeshifter is a bit more of a stretch, but I think it could be incorporated that at max mana she transforms into the Kraken Priestess, attacking only through her tentacles like in an ult. How the tentacles work and interact in either form would be kind of cool, at the least.
Kayn (Demon/Shapeshifter/Assassin)
Kayn would be a perfect Shapeshifter (and he could also have the Assassin buff). His entire kit is built around the transformation to the Darkin or Shadow Assassin, which gives Riot the freedom to make him have access to either transformation (through choice or RNG) or just make him transform into the Darkin when he hits full mana.
Jarvan IV (Noble/Brawler)
I expect we will see J4 in Teamfight Tactics at some point and if a new Brawler is being added he’d certainly fit the bill. With his patented “dunk” ult and ability to build damage and tank in League of Legends, Jarvan would fit in.
Jayce (?/Shapeshifter)
Jayce would make for an ideal Shapeshifter addition since his kit functions very similar to Elise and Nidalee, two existing Shapeshifters in the game. Jayce would start the game in ranged form, perhaps, and at full mana jump in with his hammer form, perhaps doing a bunch of AoE damage.
The big problem, however, is that in the lore Jayce does not fit into any of the Origins existing in the game. He’s a scientist from Piltover, which seems kind of related to Robots and he’s a bit of a rogue which means he’s temperamentally like the Imperials, but Jayce is a thinker more than a fighter. That’s why, I think, Riot could use him to introduce a Piltover origin (my suggestion: Mechanic) opening TFT up to champions like Camille and Viktor down the road.
Kled (Imperial/Yordle/Brawler)
Honestly, this is a likely candidate to me. Kled fits a pair of Origin synergies (Imperial and Yordle) that have very little overlap and neither have a Brawler in them at present. Also, he could be a Shapeshifter too, getting his trusty steed Skaarl when he hits full mana.
Lee Sin (Ninja/Brawler)
An iconic champion in League of Legends, Lee will probably come to the TFT Arena at some point. I’m not sure he’s the most Brawler-y of the Ninjas in League of Legends, but he would fit the bill.
Neeko (Wild/Shapeshifter)
In League of Legends, Neeko literally changes her shape to imitate other champions. While that does fit the moniker “Shapeshifter” I doubt she’ll be the new addition considering there’s already a Wild/Shapeshifter in the game (Nidalee).
Olaf (Glacial/Brawler)
Similar to Neeko, he fits the bill but there’s already a champion with this combination in the game (Volibear). He’s a possibility, but unlikely.
Riven (Exile/Brawler)
It would be nice to add an Exile champion to the game who isn’t Yasuo, but honestly, she’s more Blademaster than Brawler.
Rumble (Yordle/Robot/Brawler)
Rumble would be a perfect addition to either Yordles or Robots (or both), but I fear he’s a bit more Sorcerer/Elementalist than Brawler.
Sion (Imperial/Brawler)
A fantastic choice for a new Brawler, Sion would be the great hulking juggernaut nobody wants to face. His Q, which knocks up everyone in an area, would also be a good ability even though it’s similar to the one Cho’Gath already has.
Thresh (Phantom/Brawler)
This is another kind of a stretch since Thresh in game isn’t quite a Brawler. However, on reflection, he doesn’t really fit any of the Classes that well, and he is an iconic character, so this could be a neat way to bring him in and add more characters to the starved Demon class.
Which of these champions do you think is most likely to come to Teamfight Tactics next? Let us know in the comments!
