Tiebreaker scenarios
As we enter the final week of LCS play, there is a lot of confusion as to which teams own which tiebreakers and what the conditions for each of the playoff teams to make it in or clinch a bye. Below is a quick and dirty guide to how your favorite team can clinch.
To clinch a playoff berth
Liquid: Clinched
CLG: Clinched
Cloud9: Clinched
TSM: Clinches with one win OR one loss by 100 Thieves
Owns tiebreaker over Clutch, Golden Guardians; needs tiebreaker with 100 Thieves; does not own tiebreaker over OpTic
OpTic: Clinches with at least one win and two losses by TSM; OR two wins; OR a win and loss by both 100 Thieves and Clutch; OR two losses by both 100 Thieves and Clutch
Owns tiebreaker over TSM; would need tiebreaker with 100 Thieves, Clutch, Golden Guardians
Golden Guardians: Clinches with two wins; OR two wins and two losses by TSM; OR one win and one loss by Clutch (can accomplish this by beating Clutch head-to-head) and two losses by OpTic
Owns tiebreaker over 100 Thieves; would need tiebreaker with OpTic and Clutch (if they win); does not own tiebreaker over TSM
100 Thieves: Clinches with two wins and two losses by OpTic; OR two wins and two losses by Golden Guardians or OpTic (they would have beaten Clutch)
Would need tiebreaker with TSM, OpTic, and Clutch (if they win); does not own tiebreaker with Golden Guardians
Clutch: Clinches with two wins
Would need tiebreaker with OpTic; does not own tiebreaker with TSM; may own tiebreaker with 100 Thieves and/or Golden Guardians
To clinch a first-round bye
Team Liquid: Clinches with win
CLG: Clinches with two wins; OR one win and one Cloud9 loss
Would need tiebreaker with Liquid, Cloud9, or TSM
Cloud9: Clinches with two wins and two CLG or Liquid losses
Owns tiebreaker over Liquid; would need tiebreaker with CLG or TSM
TSM: Cannot clinch without tiebreaker
Would need tiebreaker with CLG or C9 (cannot catch Liquid)
Golden Guardians: Cannot clinch bye
OpTic: Cannot clinch bye
100 Thieves: Cannot clinch bye
Clutch: Cannot clinch bye
