It could be argued that the main reason why Schalke 04 find themselves in the top four and challenging for a bye to the LEC playoff finals is due to the hard work and incredible early game presence provided by their jungler, Gang-yun “Trick” Kim. Five wins in their last seven games has lifted the German organisation from mid-table to just two wins behind the top three, and Trick’s two Player of the Game awards during that run are a huge part of that climb.

While the former G2 player may not dominate the KDA or damage charts amongst his fellow junglers, Trick makes up for this with his early game pressure and control to secure his team a gold lead heading into the mid game. Schalke tend to play defensively and passive for the first ten minutes before taking a teamfight around a key objective and often coming out on top thanks to Abbedagge and Upset, two accomplished carries in the LEC.

Ultimately Trick operates in the first fifteen minutes of the game then hands over to his laners to carry the game forward, hence his tendency towards early game champions such as Elise, Olaf, and Xin Zhao. Of Schalke’s five losses this season, four have come against the teams above them, so if they can maintain this level of performance they’ll undoubtedly show their faces in the playoffs at the end of the season.
