League of Legends: LEC Predictions week 7 day 1
G2 Esports (11-1) v Team Vitality (5-7)
The bi-weekly guarantee of a correct prediction. In fact, it’d be a better use of time to predict which unorthodox champion G2 Esports will draft in Friday’s game against Team Vitality. Casters and analysts may have you believing that Vitality are back on the rise in the LEC, but that’s only because they’re an exciting team with some interesting personalities. Overall, this is a complete mismatch and the favourites should take it without any issue.
Prediction – G2 Esports Win
Misfits Gaming (4-8) v Origen (5-7)
The new boys against the old guard. Five rookies against five(ish) tenured veterans.
Misfits Gaming’s new roster is heading into its third full week of LEC action and they look so much stronger than their uncoordinated predecessors. That being said, they haven’t established themselves as a playoffs-worthy side just yet.
As for Origen, surely if they want to reclaim their place in the top three, and secure a spot at Worlds, the comeback must start now? Compared to their extraordinary start to life in the LEC, Origen have looked abysmal in the Summer Split and have showed no signs of their smart, calculated approach to games from last split.
All in all, this one is a stoppable force against a moveable object. Misfits will want to blow open this game early on with aggressive skirmishing and ganking, whereas Origen will want to take it slow. If Barney “Alphari” Morris and Erlend “Nukeduck” Våtevik Holm can silence their opposite numbers, which they are likely to do considering the gulf in experience, then Origen should just about take this one.
It’s a lot closer than it seems though and could well take the title of most exciting match on Friday.
Prediction – Origen Win
Fnatic (9-3) v Schalke 04 (7-5)
Don’t go thinking there are only two contenders for 2nd, Schalke 04 are very much in the running for that all-important bye to the LEC playoff finals in Athens.
Fnatic have failed to take advantage of their shock victory over G2 Esports earlier in the Summer Split and are now in a battle for the top two with Splyce and S04. It could be argued that Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pedersen has let the whispers of an MVP award affect his performances, as his complete domination of the jungle in Fnatic’s first seven wins of the split has been absent in recent weeks.
As for Schalke 04, their rise to fourth place has been excellent, cleanly dispatching any lesser teams and only falling to the big boys at the top. Their smart, slow approach to the early game and focus on superior teamfighting with accomplished carries Felix “Abbedagge” Braun and Elias “Upset” Lipp providing incredible damage output has resulted in their rise to a top two challenge. Five wins in their last seven makes them undeniable contenders and they will go within one win of Fnatic with a win on Friday.
Basing this prediction purely on current form has Schalke as front-runners. While Fnatic have become known for their ability to dictate the tempo in the early game, that’s exactly where Schalke’s Korean jungler Gang-yun “Trick” Kim strives.
Expect Schalke to slow the pace of the early game, build small advantages in the bottom half of the map through intelligent jungle tracking and pathing, before snowballing the game out of Fnatic’s hands in the first teamfight around an objective like an outer tower or elemental dragon.
Prediction – Schalke 04 Win
