Riste: The League of Legends streamer you should be watching!
By Shay Coleman
Many streamers on Twitch.tv like to complain and whine about the balance of League of Legends and only spread toxicity and negativity. Riste simply isn’t that kind of streamer.
Riste is a popular Garen one-trick and Twitch streamer. He plays on the North American server and is currently Challenger with 642 LP. He has participated in both League of Legends Twitch Rivals tournaments, successfully winning the first alongside the likes of Voyboy and Tyler1. He is the highest ELO Garen player on the NA server.
Riste, however, is a lot more than just an average Garen player. He is an inspiration and a role model to his 46,000 twitch followers. While some people come for the high tier, truly unique Garen play, others come for his positive attitude and tilt-proof play-style. Riste is seemingly unphased by any kind of negative energy that he encounters in solo queue.
The reasons you should be watching Riste stretch on. If you struggle to have a strong mental in your solo queue games, Riste shows you the alternative, how easy it is to stay positive, a superpower we all wish we could have from time to time. He knows what he needs to do in each of his matchups to guarantee the greatest chance of success in every situation and shows that perseverance is one of the greatest skills you can have in League of Legends.
Garen is a very simple champion, but complexities live within his kit that creates a skill gap between the average diamond Garen player and Riste. One technique I found very interesting that would have never even crossed my mind is what Riste calls the “Flick” or “Flick of the Riste”, a trick that employs Garen’s Villian mechanic. The technique involves not putting a skill point in Garen’s Ultimate – Demacian Justice until absolutely necessary to transition the Villian passive onto the person you are dueling.
He shows aspiring Garen players how diverse his kit and play-styles can be based on match-ups, employing many different builds and a plethora of different rune-pages while showing other non-Garen players how to keep focused and stay tilt proof throughout all of their solo queue games, and shows why you should be watching his stream no matter what champion you play or what ELO you are in, so get watching today!
