Bot Lane

ADC: “Cody Sun” vs Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng
Support:  Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme vs Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in

Doublelift is hungry to get out of a World Championship Group stage and that hunger has not been quenched in a long time. Clutch Gaming is nothing more than a stepping stone to get to where he belongs. He believes this team can win Worlds, but they need to get past Cody Sun and Vulcan first.

Similarly, for CoreJJ, he was embarrassed last time around at the World Championships. Representing Gen.G, the LCK outfit went 1-5 in a group containing EU’s Team Vitality, NA’s Cloud9 and China’s tournament favorites Royal Never Give Up. The defending World Champions Gen.G struggled to adapt to the World’s fast-paced aggressive play-style and failed immensely.  He wants his redemption, a true Avenger.

This bot-lane duo has been smashing LCS. CoreJJ has the 2nd highest KDA out of any player in the LCS with a 6.0 just behind jungler Xmithie. Doublelift lags just behind with a 5.8, still a terrific score.  They will be played around by the rest of the team too, with the pair having a 44% First Blood Participation.

They do face a new hot commodity on a fiery run who made Smoothie and Zven look like Academy Rookies. Enter Cody Sun and Vulcan.

There it is, the true face of fear. Cody Sun has been a very consistent player recently, showing true immortality in the games he plays with an incredibly low amount of deaths. His positioning has been stellar. He came out of the 3-1 series against TSM with a KDA of 24/2/24. He died twice in total, in four games. TWICE!

Vulcan makes all of this possible. They play a super aggressive laning phase, loving picks like Xayah and Rakan. Vulcan also has a love for Alistar, which we could see in this series. Vulcan loves to risk his own life for a positive play for his team. Unlike Cody, Vulcan died 17 times in the TSM series. This might come as a hindrance to CG with his tendency to get caught out, which is free fuel for the Team Liquid machine.

This bot-lane matchup is surprisingly tough to call. With CG bot lane on fire recently, I wouldn’t want to bet against them. That is until you see the star power they face. World Champion CoreJJ and LCS Icon Doublelift. Truly David vs Goliath, the upstarts vs the established, Cody vs Doublelift once again.

I’m not going to bet against the favorites here, advantage Team Liquid.
Advantage: Team Liquid.
