New Additions

Ekko

Ekko has always been one of those niche jungle picks, but after a healthy round of buffs in Patch 9.16 (bonus damage to his E – Phase Drive and the cooldown on his R – Chronobreak) he’s come back surprisingly high in the C tier. This is the highest he’s ever been ranked as a jungler and I’ll be very interested to see if he stays in the jungle meta. With a pick rate jumping to 1.6% in 9.16, he is definitely doing well right now.

Observations

Obviously, we can throw out the few champions who got direct buffs (Nocturne and Jax) because we will get to them in a bit. Among the rest, a few names jump out.

First, there is Karthus, whose win rate has been steadily improving for a few patches now, despite no direct buffs. Right now, he has the second-best win rate in the jungle with a 53.4% win rate. That’s right behind another rising champion, Nunu & Willump, whose win rate has been one of the top three among junglers over the last five patches.

Skirmishers like Master Yi, Xin Zhao, and Kayn all saw their ranking go up this patch, but not necessarily their win rate. Ditto for Warwick and Olaf, but they are a bit more on the bruiser side, as well as Graves.

This seems to indicate that there is a bit more forgiveness in the current meta for fighters who don’t necessarily need to gank early to get ahead. I’m not sure why exactly this trend has begun (maybe because tanks are a bit stronger in the top lane they’re not needed as badly in the jungle?) but it will be interesting to see whether this continues.
