Mid Lane

Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage vs Tanner “Damonte” Damonte

PowerofEvil had a lot of flaws exposed by Nisqy and Damonte in the playoffs, namely his difficulty playing champions that are not control mages. The difference between PoE on a champion like Azir (22 KDA and 483 GPM in the playoffs) and Qiyana (2.22 KDA and 401 GPM in the playoffs) is a stark reminder of his limitations.

With that being said, though PoE does not have a champion pool issue, as he has pulled out picks like Ahri, Syndra, and Cassiopeia with a fair bit of success during the Summer Split and playoffs. Paired with his comfort champ of Orianna and the meta champs he can play well like Corki, Azir, and Karma, PoE has the ability to win mid lane for CLG.

Damonte wasn’t allowed onto that signature Qiyana pick against FlyQuest but he did better than I expected. He played Syndra in the first two games of the series into the more meta picks of Azir and Corki. His 4/3/9 scoreline between those games doesn’t scream carry, but his performance was good enough to get them a win and be the team’s best player in their one loss.

But after the Syndra, we saw Damonte relegated to playing Karma and Irelia mid in Games 3 and 4. Don’t get me wrong, he performed well on both, but it really seemed like he was a bit reliant on other players to be the carry in those games.

Unlike his jungler, Damonte will certainly have his champion pool pinched, with Qiyana getting banned and PoE happy to first-pick Syndra to take it away from Damonte. If he’s forced onto his less comfortable or less meta picks, I don’t know if he can match up against the German.

Advantage: CLG
