Stage 3

  • Your goals to reach at the end of this stage are as follows (in order of importance):
    • 1) to have the comp set that you’ll be building towards in the late game.
    • 2) end Stage 3 with above 30 life
    • 3) end Stage 3 with above 30g
  • Level up before the first or second round unless you really want to re-roll (to perhaps upgrade to a 3-star unit or get a 2g/3g unit to 2-stars).
  • You’ll start getting 4g units, which are what you will primarily be building your comp around. Your goal is to get a stable comp (see our TFT tier list for what we think are some of the best comps in the game with consideration towards which items you have already acquired) as quickly in Stage 3 as you can. Once you have your comp stabilized, start to econ through the rest of Stage 3 (do not re-roll aggressively).
  • Stage 3 you will start to take a lot more damage from losses, so if you don’t have a good comp at the start you need to aggressively re-roll to get better units ASAP. If you drop under 40 life (or especially 30 life) you NEED to start aggressively re-rolling for key units.
  • NEVER RE-ROLL DURING THE PVE ROUNDS FROM STAGE 3 ON! These are free rounds where you will not take damage, so use the opportunity to econ for free.

Stages 4 and beyond

  • Take stock of your comp during each PVE round (you’re not re-rolling so you have time to look at the units you have). Use the round after PVE (e.g. 4-1 or 5-1) to level up if you have the gold for it.
  • In Rounds 4-1 or 4-2, you’ll likely level up to Level 7. You should have an idea of your end game comp. From here on, you’ll mainly be rolling to upgrade your units more than to level.
  • At this point, you should be more focused on seeing what your opponents have and what their win conditions are so you can counter it by positioning or buying units they need (i.e. buy the Aurelion Sol so there’s one less to prevent the leader from getting his Sol to 2-stars).
  • You should have a realistic idea here of either trying to hit top four in the lobby or going for a top two spot. Your goals for each will vary slightly.
    • If you’re fighting for that top-four spot (basically if you’re below 50 health or if you didn’t have much gold left over after leveling to 7), you want to aggressively roll rather than save to econ.
    • If you’re fighting for a top-two spot (you’re at high health with a good comp going into Stage 4), you want to save your gold and not re-roll. Instead, use the time in between rounds to see what units other players have taken so you’re not banking on getting units that aren’t available. Save your econ to use to level up!
  • It’s especially bad to re-roll for one 4 or 5g unit at Level 7 because the odds are high that someone else will be holding them (you should also buy a 4/5g unit if you know someone else
  • Once you get to Level 8, you’re going to start aggressively re-rolling. You’re not focused on saving gold and you’re not focused on leveling (getting to Level 9 is basically impossible).
