League of Legends: How European teams have used unique drafts to succeed

Twisted Fate’s History in Flexibility
We finish with a spotlight on the history of play of one champion in particular, Twisted Fate, The Card Master.
Twisted Fate has been played in the same boring style for a long time, with full AP builds in the mid lane. Two players decided they had had enough, Fnatic’s Nemesis in 2019, and Unicorn’s Of Love’s jungler in 2015. We’ll start with the less exciting one first.
It emerged on the European solo queue ladder in 2019 that a few players were playing Twisted Fate in the mid lane like normal, but using the Kleptomancy rune and rushing Trinity Force. This was a weird adaptation of the champions kit, but one that proved vital for Fnatic and their mid laner Nemesis.
Fnatic used this pick to sweep the floor with North America during Rift Rivals, and employed it for a 2nd place LEC finish.
The year is 2015, and Unicorns of Love fan-voted into IEM San Jose where they match up with NA dominants TSM in the Semi-Finals. Bjergsen has matched up once again with his home-region, in a game that spawned a famous curse and one of the most inventive jungle picks of all time.
Kikis is now known for being the guy that played Twisted Fate jungle, which is a testament to how crazy it was at the time. To be the fan-voted team to attend, and whip out such confidence in the face of NA’s titans TSM and win is crazy. It’s another prime example of how inventive EU is and how it works! Flash, Gold Card, Bjergsen’s dead!
With such a big tournament coming up for Europe, I have no doubt that we will see more of these wacky picks and we are sure that it will lead Europe to great success!
