Falling Champions

Rakan (A+ to A tier)
Zilean (A to B+ tier)
Yuumi (B+ to B tier)
Fiddlesticks (B+ to B tier)
Vel’Koz (B+ to B tier)
Sona (B to C tier)
Swain (C to D tier)
Alistar (C to D tier)

Observations

Both Fiddlesticks and Vel’Koz are the first support whose rating clearly stands out, as they had been consistently in the B/B+ tier for at least five patches. With stable win rates, their drops are probably not related to actual strength as supports. Either one could stay in the B tier or move back up (or even drop down) depending on outside factors.

While Rakan had a good run in the A+ tier of supports, it appears his time has finally run out. For the last two patches his win rate has been steadily declining from 51% to now 49.2% (including a 1.1% drop in just this patch). He’ll have to be very charming if he wants to stay in the high end of our tier list for much longer.

Zilean‘s ranking took a nosedive this patch, but his win rate actually increased to over 52% and he’s still one of the top five supports in terms of win rate. Expect to see this drop correct itself next patch. Ditto for Sona, although her win rate isn’t as strong, I don’t think she should be in the C tier for the first time despite getting over a 1.2% win rate improvement.

After she got nerfed in 9.16, Yuumi‘s win rate fell off a cliff, down to around 44%. Her rating rebounded back to the B+ tier in 9.17 but it was short-lived as she’s now down to the B tier and could even drop further into the C tier with a win rate that low.

Swain entered the support tier list just last patch strong in the C tier, but now it appears the luster of this new pick is wearing off. Swain is dipping into the D tier and we’ll see how much longer he remains in the support meta.

Finally, we have Alistar, who has been flip-flopping between D and C tiers for four patches now and is likely to stay that way for the foreseeable future. If you’re looking to play him, there are probably better tank supports available and right now he’s pretty bad.
