Path to the League of Legends World Championship

In their inaugural split in the VCS under their new brand (they were previously known as Friends Forever Gaming), Lowkey looked ready to build and challenge the top teams in the VCS. They finished third during the 2019 Summer Season with a 9-5 record, thanks in part to replacing former top laner KingJ with Hani.

Unfortunately, in the playoffs they were forced to face off with Vietnam’s best team, Gigabyte Marines, who promptly swept them in the first round. With only once chance to bounce back and make a run to the organization’s first Worlds appearance, Lowkey was forced to do it the hard way by going through the loser’s bracket.

They started off by sweeping the VCS representative at MSI (and Twitch chat darlings) Phong Vũ Buffalo in three games. In the runner-up match, Lowkey punched their ticket to Europe by defeating Team Flash 3-1.

Player to watch

Jungler DNK, who was probably the second-best jungler in the VCS behind Gigabyte Marines’ famed Levi. With a 4.21 KDA and VCS-high 25.6% kill participation, DNK was one of the few junglers around the world who regularly picks Nidalee and also had a 100% win rate on Elise during the summer.

Best case scenario

They show that their run in the VCS playoffs wasn’t a fluke and put Vietnam on the map as one of the strongest up-and-coming regions. They pull an upset or two and win their group, win in the knockout round, get a good group draw at the main event, and take two wins off teams in their group.

Worst case scenario

That run in the playoffs was a fluke and they only go 0-4 in a tough group.

Prediction

They get screwed in the play-in group draw, end up in a tough group, go 1-3, miss the knockouts but look really impressive while doing it.
