League of Legends: why Splyce can (and can’t) win Worlds

Why Splyce Won’t win worlds
1. G2 and Fnatic
G2 and Fnatic are powerhouse teams that played Splyce a lot during the 2019 Season. They also beat Splyce a lot.
In 2019 Fnatic went 3-1 combined against Splyce in Spring and Summer Split. They then beat Splyce 3-1 in round two of the Spring Split Playoffs. Fnatic also bested Splyce 3-0 in the regional finals to drop Splyce to the third seed and play-ins.
On the other hand, G2 is 3-1 during 2019 against Splyce, including 2-0 during the summer. So if a fellow LEC team gets Splyce in the bracket stage Splyce is looking like the underdog. G2 and Fnatic should be teams to watch out for if you’re wondering which team will eliminate Splyce.
2. Upset in play-ins
Splyce is the favorite to get out of play-in Group B, going up against Isurus and DetonatioN FocusMe as their challengers. But there is still a possibility that Splyce could be upset by one of them.
If Splyce loses focus and drops a game or two, they could end up with a second-place finish in the group. That could mean a meeting with Damwon and a play-ins knockout round knock out.
Though this is unlikely Splyce should be aware and have the right preparation no matter the team they get in play-ins and play-in knockouts. The road isn’t as easy as you think. One wrong step and you bow out of this tournament way before you’re expected too.
3. Fighting the other top teams
Splyce is a top team, but I don’t think they are the number one top team. On our team rankings, ten other teams were rated higher. G2, SKT, Fun Plus, Liquid are all pool one region one seeds that could finish ahead of Splyce. Any of the two seeds from the major region could give them a major challenge and oust them as well.
Heck Splyce wasn’t even the highest-rated team in the play-ins. That title goes to Damwon gaming.
I feel Splyce can hang around with a few of them and maybe even take a win, or two from a favorite. It’s just they may have to repeat that two or three times to win it all and that it where Splyce could hit a snag.
Splyce is close, but might just be a little too far away. However, they might surprise some people, do watch them closely throughout Worlds.
The League of Legends World Championship kicks off Wednesday, October 2 at 7:00 EST / 13:00 CEST.
