Bot lane
We’ll deal with the bot lane duos together because of the synergy the positions have and the fact that teams will often prioritize picking power duos together (e.g. Xayah/Rakan, Kai’Sa/Nautilus, etc.).
In terms of what is meta, though, there are really only three ADCs that have been consistently picked: Xayah, Kai’Sa, and (unbelievably) Syndra. For supports, again really three champions stand above the rest: Rakan, Thresh, Nautilus. So who does that meta favor?
Well Doublelift‘s two most-played champions were Xayah and Kai’Sa (followed narrowly by Caitlyn) so he’s fine in this respect, and CoreJJ has played a lot of Rakan. The problem is that Double really hasn’t had much luck playing mages bot lane (so help me god do not play Sona) and CoreJJ’s champion pool after Rakan is a bit shaky.
By contrast, when we look at Invictus Gaming’s bot lane we see that Baolan has plenty of experience on both Rakan and Nautilus, but not much on Thresh. JackeyLove‘s most-played ADC in the LPL Summer Split regular season and playoffs was Kai’Sa, and obviously, he is known as a good Xayah player (heck, he and Baolan have Xayah/Rakan skins from last year’s Championship line).
Wako, AHQ’s ADC, is actually a bit disadvantaged when it comes to this meta, as he played far more Ezreal, Lucian, and Sivir than Xayah/Rakan, but he has some experience playing mages in the bot lane. Similarly, Ysera played mostly Braum, Yuumi, and Tahm Kench, with a smattering of Nautilus. The meta very much does not favor their most-played picks.
Finally, during the play-in stage we saw Nuclear lean heavily into the Kai’Sa and Xayah picks, but with fairly limited success. BeryL, on the other hand, poses a problem of being very reliant on the Yuumi and Alistar picks, which are a bit out of the meta. Not to say he can’t play those big three supports, but it certainly doesn’t seem like Damwon is making it a priority for them. Most spectators saw them as the two weak points of Damwon, so it’s very likely they’ll continue to struggle here.
So, by picks how would I rate all of these bot lanes?
- Pure power ranking: Doublelift/CoreJJ > JackeyLove/Baolan >> Nuclear/BeryL > Wako/Ysera
- If on Xayah/Rakan: Doublelfit/CoreJJ > JackeyLove/Baolan >> Nuclear/BeryL > Wako/Ysera
- If on Kai’Sa/Nautilus: JackeyLove/Baolan > Doublelift/CoreJJ >> Nuclear/BeryL > Wako/Ysera
- If on Syndra/Thresh: JackeyLove/Baolan >> Doublelift/CoreJJ > Wako/Ysera > Nuclear/BeryL
I would expect the highest priority picks to be Xayah/Rakan.
