As Worlds 2019 is currently underway in League of Legends, we take a look at Invictus Gaming and how they will or won’t win it all.

Invictus Gaming currently holds the title belt from their 2018 League of Legends Worlds Championship win. However, after a rough summer split it looked like they wouldn’t have a shot to defend their title. Though they have made it to Worlds 2019, here are three reasons apiece as to why Invictus Gaming will, or won’t repeat as champions this time around.

Why Invictus will win Worlds

#1 Defending champions

Invictus was the best of the best in 2018. They went 5-1 in their group, before dropping a tiebreaker to Fnatic to finish in second place. They then dispatched KT Rolster 3-2 in the quarterfinals and swept G2 3-0 to reach the grand finals. There they met up with Fnatic and took the rematch 3-0 to collect their first title.

Invictus did have to earn this title, going through Fnatic times two, KT Rolster and G2 isn’t slouching on competing.  These are also many of the teams set to challenge them in 2019. If they can repeat last year’s run, Invictus could make a run at a title defense.

#2 Highly rated

Invictus Gaming is a power team to watch at this year’s Worlds as they received the number five rating on our list. This puts them ahead of RNG, Team Liquid, Griffin and Cloud 9, and Damwon Gaming.

Two of the teams, that rated ahead of Invictus are G2 and Fnatic, whom they beat last year at Worlds and could match up well against them this year.

SKT and FunPlus Phoenix are the other team rated higher than Invictus. During MSI, Invictus tied SKT 1-1 in group stage games, they also picked up a win against SKT at Rift Rivals 2019 thus giving them the ability to play SKT strong in head to head games.

FunPlus Phoenix and Invictus battled twice in 2019 regular Spring and Summer Split play and each took a game off each other. Making it that even if you are higher rated than them, Invictus can still play with anybody once they load up on the Rift.

#3 TheShy

Top laner Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok is going to be my player to watch at Worlds for Invictus gaming. TheShy rated number three on our list of the World’s best top laners. He is an aggressive top laner who may die a lot, but not before he deals a lot of damage and gets gold.

He held his own in the LPL, having been named “Man of the Match” six times. Additionally, he was placed on the week six and seven all-pro teams and then named the overall MVP of that team. He finished off a strong 2019 Summer Split by being named first-team all-pro LPL, the only member of Invictus Gaming to make an all-pro team this split.

This is essentially the same roster that won it all in 2018 and TheShy is playing like the standout as of recently.
