Observations
It’s shocking to see two of the longest-tenured S tier champions – not just in the mid lane but the game – in Zed and Ahri drop out down to the A+ tier. This is the first time that neither Zed nor Ahri has been an S tier mid laner since Patch 9.3. However, I will note that both of these champions had very slight drops in their ranking and neither’s win dropped, so I don’t think either of them is actually weaker than they were last patch.
In addition, several champions fell out of the tier from which they rose into last patch, namely Mordekaiser, Aatrox, and Azir. None of them saw their win rate drop in 9.20, nor are there other extenuating circumstances explaining why they would drop.
Now, Swain actually saw his win rate spike up in 9.20, going up to 52.4%. Although his pick rate already was one of the lowest in the mid lane, it did drop further which could be a reason for this drop, but I think it’s likely that his ranking will stabilize in the future.
Finally, Kled is one of the few remaining AD “Bruisers” still in the mid lane meta, but he’s fallen down into the F tier despite having one of the best win rates in the position (53.7% is fourth-best). Now, he has a low pick rate, but I wonder if we’re going to see his ranking rebound or if we’re seeing the beginning of the end of Kled the mid laner.
Buffed champions
Lissandra
Maybe the champion with the biggest win rate boost from 47.7% to 49.6% was Lissandra. While she is only in our D tier, with her win rate still going up she could go even higher next patch. This is all thanks to base stat boosts and AP ratio buffs to her Passive – Iceborn Subjugation and W – Ring of Frost.
Viktor
Viktor got a lot of power shifted to his Q – Siphon Power‘s damage, the utility on his W – Gravity Field, and the damage on his R – Chaos Storm. Unfortunately, it didn’t seem to really boost his power. His tier list ranking is unchanged from 9.19 (still in the F tier) and his win rate only rose slightly from 46.3% to 48.4%. While a 2% win rate boost seems substantial, he still has one of the lowest win rates for mid laners.
Nerfed champions
Pantheon
Riot took some damage out of Panth’s Q – Comet Spear, which…boosted him up into the A tier. This is puzzling to see after a champion got a direct buff and considering that his win rate fell by 0.5%.
Qiyana
A pure damage nerf to her Q – Edge of Ixtal did hit her win rate (down from 49.9% to 48.2%), but it doesn’t look like her power in the lane was affected by the nerfs. She remains in the B tier, which isn’t stellar. I’ll be interested to see if she drops next patch.
