Ocean Dragon

"Ocean Rift: If the third dragon of the game is of the Ocean variety, it will expand brushes around the map, as well as adding new brush near the dragon pit. Honeyfruits will also spawn in the jungle. Oceanic Will: Upon defeating an Ocean Dragon, your team will regenerate a percentage of missing health every second. Ocean Dragon Soul: If Ocean is the dominant element when your team defeats their fourth dragon of the game, dealing any damage will result in health and resource regeneration for 3 seconds (less so if the damage is to minions)."

Brushes spawning around the map and current brushes expanding is a Rengar’s dream! If Ocean is the third dragon to spawn, expect a lot more Fnatic brush strategies to be used in the game as teams look to surprise their opponents by piling into one of the many brushes spread around the map.

Much like Infernal Dragon, the Ocean Drake buff won’t change too much during preseason.

As if healers weren’t already out of favour enough, they’ve now been replaced by a late game Ocean Dragon Soul. The obnoxious healing provided by Ocean Dragon in the early game can now be spread to the later stages of the game if your opposing team picks up the Ocean Dragon Soul.

Elder Dragon

Elder Dragon is now the next dragon to spawn whenever one team has killed four Elemental Dragons and received a Dragon Soul. With the new Elder, the team who kills the epic monster will still receive a short-term combat buff, but it will no longer scale with the number of dragons slain previously. Instead, whenever a champion with the Elder buff damages a low-health opponent, they’ll be executed by Elder Immolation.

Not only does this give losing teams a path back into the game, it also gives the winning team a near sure-fire method of closing out and securing a victory. On top of that, it looks so cool. Let’s be honest, the old Elder Dragon was boring. Especially when compared to what we’ll see in preseason.

A strong dragon soul and Elder Dragon should definitely be enough for any competent team to close out a game, particularly if the Elder execute is a high threshold.

So, which is likely to be the strongest Elemental Dragon in preseason?

Obviously we’ll need to see the numbers before we can decide which is definitely strongest, but we can always speculate.

Award for most improved Elemental Dragon has already been handed over to Mountain, but which is likely to be strongest in preseason? Infernal has always taken the crown in the past because everyone loves having more damage, but are any of the new rifts/souls strong enough to dethrone the fire drake?

Not really.

Reduced ability cooldowns is great and will have a huge impact on teamfights, but harder to utilise than a pure damage increase. The same goes for regeneration, which is very nice to have, but can also just be provided with a Soraka on your team. Mountain is probably the closest of the three to overtaking Infernal as everyone’s favourite, but it’s hard to argue with damage amplification.

There’s no doubt that all four of the dragons are useful in team fights, but Infernal is the easiest to utilise and will probably have the greatest impact on a skirmish. Therefore, it’s likely that the fire dragon will remain at the top of the dragon tier list throughout preseason.
