Observations
- Five new champions entered the mid lane meta. For Garen and Ezreal, this is the first time they’ve been featured in a tier list for mid lane.
- Of the remaining three new mid laners in our tier list, only Kayle is a returning mid worth picking. She’s not only in our B+ tier in her first patch back, but she’s also sitting at a comfortable 52% win rate.
- The biggest drop in our tier list was unquestionably Pyke, who fell basically from above average to trash after his nerfs. The biggest rise in our tier list was Viktor, who got nerfs in Patch 9.21 as well.
- Rumble is struggling a bit more in the mid lane this patch, as his win rate dropped by about 1% from the last patch.
- Qiyana got a healthy bump to her ranking, but also saw her win rate rise by over 2% in Patch 9.21, so she’s poised to improve even further.
- For the second patch in a row, Aurelion Sol has the highest win rate in the mid lane, 55.5%. He languishes in the C tier, though, because of his 1.6% pick rate, one of the lowest in the mid lane.
- A few champions saw their tier ranking drop despite their win rates in Patch 9.21 rising. Pantheon, Ekko, Xerath, Galio, Taliyah, and Zilean all saw this happen, so I wouldn’t say they’re necessarily any weaker than they were last patch.
Buffed champions
Viktor
With buffs to his base stats and the damage on his Q – Siphon Power, Viktor is certainly in a great spot. As we noted above, he had the biggest rise in our tier list and got a 0.9% increase to his win rate. Unfortunately, while he had the biggest rise in our tier list, he’s still a below-average mid laner and is unlikely to rise significantly further.
Nerfed champions
Pyke
Unlike in the past, the nerfs to Pyke’s base stats and Passive – Gift of the Drowned Ones was certainly not targetted at his mid lane power. Nevertheless, the nerfs hit him in the mid lane, knocking him all the way to the F tier in our biggest drop. He still has a decent win rate (51.5% in the mid lane) but that’s still down over 3.25% from the last patch.
