Base race!

Game 2 just had everything, including a thrilling finish. After a botched team fight by FPX at the 42-minute mark where Doinb was caught out and died early, ADC Lin “Lwx” Wei-Xiang tried a desperation teleport into the IG base, hoping to finish off the last Nexus towers and the Nexus itself.

Unfortunately for him, IG top laner Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok just barely managed to get his teleport onto the last Nexus tower before it died. This allowed him to defend IG’s base while the rest of his team cleaned up the scattered FPX members and push for the win. It was a truly ballsy move and, had Lwx been able to kill that last turret slightly faster, it might have won FPX Game 2.

Tian’s Supreme Display of Talent

This isn’t exactly a “moment” but in Game 3 Tian hard carried the game on Qiyana. In team fight after team fight, Tian lined up picture-perfect ultimates and stuns, resulting in him ending the game with a 9/1/7 scoreline.

One moment in particular that did stand out is at around 23 minutes when Tian flanked to dive onto JackeyLove behind his inner turret, escaped, and then killed TheShy right after from full health. That ability to just play with Qiyana’s kit so effectively is what made him my MVP for this series.

TheShy giveth, TheShy taketh

In Game 4, Invictus Gaming again needed to come back from an early deficit against FPX. Although not as severe as Game 2, IG found themselves down 8-2 in kills and over 1,500 gold down at 11 minutes. Luckily they had an ace-in-the-hole on their side in the form of TheShy’s Kayle.

As he began to scale into Kayle’s late game form, which is terrifying, TheShy began to completely take over team fights. He was 8/5/4 as the teams were approaching the 29-minute mark of the game with his team ahead by 2,000 gold. Then disaster struck.

He and teammate JackeyLove blindly face-checked into the entire enemy team, allowing TheShy to get cc’ed and blown up before he could even get his ult up. Without their two primary damage dealers, IG was forced back and conceded the Baron.

However, five minutes later, Invictus again had the opportunity to leverage TheShy’s lead. With one inhibitor down, IG was poised to take the other open inhib as part of a five-man seige. Unfortunately, TheShy once again mispositioned, was cc’ed, and died before he was able to get that crucial Kayle ultimate off. The two mistakes ultimately cost IG the fourth game and resulted in FPX closing out the 3-1 series victory.
