League of Legends: what players in each role are thankful for in 2019
By Josh Tyler
Thanksgiving has arrived, so it’s time for all of us League of Legends players to give thanks!
As you sit down with your family, friends, or loved ones this Thanksgiving, be sure to spare a moment to give thanks for all the great things League of Legends brought you this year. Here is what players from each role should be giving thanks for this year.
Top lane
- I’m thankful for the removal of Conqueror, which allows me to play tanks without seeing my health melt like an ice cream sandwich on a hot summer day.
- I’m thankful for those rare instances where my jungler blesses my lane with a gank or, better yet, actually counter ganks and lets me turn a gank into a double kill.
- I’m thankful for Rift Herald, which actually gave some purpose to my side of the map in Season 9.
- I’m thankful for the removal of Spear of Shojin, so that Jax, Renekton, and Riven no longer become auto win-lane conditions.
- I’m thankful every game my jungler doesn’t come top lane and int my lane opponent double buffs…and every game the enemy jungler gifts them to me.
Jungler
- I’m thankful for /muteall, for the games where my teammates flame me incessantly as if I can be in every lane at all times.
- I’m thankful for every leash I get and every time one of my laners tanks a hit from the buff.
- I’m thankful that Cinderhulk junglers didn’t completely dominate the meta and actually allowed me to be more than just a roaming ward.
- I’m thankful for every time the enemy says “jg diff” as they’re losing.
- I’m thankful for every time the enemy jungler comes to my defense when my team flames me in all chat, because we’ve all been there.
- I’m thankful that Riot nerfed the Scuttle Crab experience…and then again…so that the game wasn’t decided over who had stronger side lanes to get priority.
- I’m thankful to get to play the most OP and brain-dead role, according to everyone who does not play jungle and does not want to play the role.
- I’m thankful for Riot not reworking the jungle yet another time this season, thus making me have to relearn the–oh goddammit.
Mid lane
- I’m thankful for every blue buff the jungler gives me and every time I get that blue buff without even having to ask.
- I’m thankful for Qiyana, because I’m a Yasuo/Zed main but I like to think that I’m a good person.
- I’m thankful for those games where my roams are unmatched or, even better, when I catch the low-health enemy jungler taking crab.
- I’m thankful for mages with waveclear, allowing me to stall games forever when my teammates are struggling.
- I’m thankful that Zoe was nerfed into oblivion.
- I’m thankful for Morellonomicon, mostly because it pisses LS off and that’s just hilarious to me.
- I’m thankful that Sylas is no longer infecting my lane 24/7 with his stupid freaking healing and natural waveclear.
ADC
- I’m thankful whenever I get a support who is actually able to hit hooks, position correctly, and not feed gold to my opponent.
- I’m thankful Quicksilver Sash, which frees me from every mistake I make.
- I’m thankful for Ardent Censer and Redemption, for keeping me at full health and boosting me up throughout team fights.
- I’m thankful to Riot for actually making crit items worth buying again in Season 9.
- I’m thankful for getting to play the highest DPS and most-important role in League of Legends.
- I’m thankful that mages and bruisers are no longer filling up the bot lane meta because having to learn more than seven champions for a role is impossible.
- I’m thankful for Kai’Sa, who allows me to build Zhonya’s Hourglass like I’ve always dreamed.
Support
- I’m thankful for when my ADC allowed me to last-hit a cannon minion with Relic Shield. I’m even more thankful when I hit it.
- I’m thankful that I no longer have to sink 800 gold into Sightstone anymore, and now Riot is even going to let me have it for free in Season 10.
- I’m thankful for ADCs who don’t rage at me and teammates who recognize when I help win the lane.
- I’m thankful for Pyke, who allows me to play like an assassin but not actually have to learn how to lane independently.
