The events

During the event, there are a bunch of games taking place.  One of the most popular is the 1v1 tournament where players go head-to-head to see which is the best individual player.

Caps won this event last year and is back to defend this year. It’s a fun event to watch as many people chose different champions than they usually do, or even have mirror matches with both players on the same champion. It’s fun and most people tend to take this event seriously.

For the first time, the All-Star event will also have TFT as part of it, and many of the streamers invited like Hafu mainly play Teamfight Tactics. It’s a good idea to have this popular game mode to promote Riot’s newest venture, especially given their intention to develop a professional TFT circuit at some point in the future, so I think if the event is successful we could see more professional TFT games in the future.

The final events are show matches, taking place in the traditional 5v5 SR mode, but with a twist. Usually, these involve regional battles to see who is superior such as NA vs. EU or the LPL vs. LCK. It’s sort of like a mini-Rift Rivals in the span of a couple of days.  They can be fun to watch and root for your region as they fight for bragging rights.

Then there is an URF battle which could be fun since a lot of people love that mode why not include it in the event. Finally, we have tandem mode, which is without a doubt the best mode of the event.

Two players team up to control one champion. It’s kind of funny to see them try to make a bunch of plays at first, but then once they get used to it it’s really fun to watch. Plus last year we had Sneaky and Bang cosplay as Xayah and Rakan during the event. So with both of them at the event who knows what they will do as an encore. See last year’s tandem mode to see what it was like here.

Despite all my misgivings about player size and lack of competitiveness, I do think there is a nice balance of fun and serious events. I can’t wait to see what goes down in Vegas when the event starts on the 5th.
