TFT: Patch 10.1 changes could kill the Blender comps
By Josh Tyler
Class Changes
Druid
"HP Regen: 40 per second ⇒ 45 per second."
It doesn’t really matter, you’re not caring about the Druid synergy ever. This might incentivize players to build Karma and maybe it’s a small buff to Woodland champions, but otherwise, this is pretty meaningless.
Light
"Bonus attack speed: 15/25/35% ⇒ 15/35/55%"
Light has been a fairly underwhelming Origin for quite a while, so I’m fine with them giving it a substantial buff as you add more units. My only hope is that this doesn’t make the synergy too strong.
Ocean
"15/30/60 mana every 4 seconds ⇒ 10/30/60 mana every 4 seconds."
Ocean is still a pretty strong early comp, so nerfing the mana regen early makes sense. No real complaints and it doesn’t hurt full Ocean/Mage or Ocean/Summoner comps.
Shadow
"60/140% bonus damage ⇒ 60/150% bonus damage."
I actually think Shadow is a pretty good comp right now (especially Shadow/Summoners/Inferno), so incentivizing players to build a full Shadow comp is actually pretty nice. This is a pretty fair buff.
Tier 1 Champion Changes
Vayne
"HP: 500 ⇒ 550 Spell damage: 9/12/15% of target’s max HP ⇒ 10/13/16% of target’s max HP"
This is a 1% max HP buff across the board, plus a 50 base HP buff. I think this could be massive, especially combined with the Light buff. We might see the first iteration of hyper-roll Vayne.
Warwick
"Starting mana / Total mana: 50/150 ⇒ 50/125 Spell damage: 200/450/700 ⇒ 200/500/800"
Warwick is unquestionably one of the worst Predators in the game right now, so giving him more damage and up-time on his ability is probably warranted. If those hyper-roll strats become as common as I’m thinking they may be, Warwick could be a decent (but probably not OP) unit.
Tier 2 Champions
Jax
"HP: 650 ⇒ 700 AD: 50 ⇒ 55"
Riot has noted in the past that even small buffs of five AD can have huge impacts on the TFT meta. Jax getting a buff to his AD and HP could, again, be huge. Full Berserker comps are already in a pretty decent spot, so this could make Jax a candidate to hyper-roll and stack with items like multiple Lockets.
Malzahar
"Minion AD: 30/60/90 ⇒ 40/70/100"
I actually really hate this buff, since Malzahar is already in an okay spot with Shadow units starting to make a comeback (and probably continuing with the coming buffs). 10 AD for these units across all levels is probably not super strong, but with both of Malz’s synergies being in a good spot he could be a highly-contested pick again.
Neeko
"Starting mana / Total mana: 0/80 ⇒ 0/60"
I was really hoping Riot would just pull the trigger and make Neeko a Woodland/Mage or Woodland/Druid/Mage, but this essentially accomplishes the same thing. Giving Neeko more up-time on her ult is really the only way to change her from being a fairly useless unit like she is now to actually worth buying. I still wouldn’t consider hyper-rolling her at all, though.
Senna
"Ally ability damage buff: 15/30/55 ⇒ 15/40/65"
Senna needed a bigger buff than this to become relevant, and the fact that Riot didn’t buff her 1-star is going to continue to hold her back. I don’t expect Senna to be a unit players will try to get beyond 2-stars in a comp, so at the least, you’re getting a nice buff there.
Skarner
"Shield bonus attack speed: 30/65/100% ⇒ 50/75/100%"
This is actually massive and should make Skarner a much more attractive Predator if you choose to go that route. There might actually be room for a Predator/Blademaster variant (a new type of Blender comp) with Skarner as one of the main damage dealers.
Syndra
"Starting mana / Total mana: 0/80 ⇒ 0/65"
Getting 15 mana off her ult, especially since she slots so well into the Ocean/Mage comps, is huge. Even with Ocean getting nerfed early, this could make Syndra a much stronger unit, but probably not one worth building around.
Varus
"Spell damage: 225/450/675 ⇒ 225/450/800"
The only reason I would think Varus will become a contested unit in Patch 10.1 is if Rangers really become good with the new items. But, even then, a buff to his spell’s damage at 3-stars is probably not going to impact him too much because you’re not stacking AP items on him (unless you’re trying to hyper-roll him for some reason).
