LCS Spring Split 2020: Week 4 Team Power Ranking
By Josh Tyler
5. Immortals (5-3)
Elo: 375 (-28)
Right now, Immortals are the team that the stats and elo believe in the least at the top of the table and this weekend was a microcosm of why. They beat TL, which was expected, but then lost to EG. Of the teams that are ahead of them, the only one they’ve managed to beat is TSM in Week 1, though they will get a chance to take down Dignitas next week.
The big problem with Immortals is that their early game is quite poor and they’ve only had two wins that came in under 35 minutes. Eventually, as other teams gel and improve, their ability to pull out wins in the late game will start to catch up to them.
4. TSM (4-4)
Elo: 391 (-23)
Speaking of teams that need work on their late game macro, holy hell TSM. Their losses to FlyQuest and Cloud9 were both the same story: get ahead early and botch fights in the mid game to slowly lose their lead.
I was actually quite impressed by their early game against C9, despite their eventual loss, but the FlyQuest game was an inexcusable loss with how far ahead they were. A big part of the issue is that their drafts are too difficult to execute in the latter part of the game. I’d rather they go back to those big teamfight teams they had success with previously as they need to get some wins off 100 Thieves and EG next weekend to solidify their spot in the standings.
3. Dignitas (4-4)
Elo: 414 (-19)
A loss to Golden Guardians hurts their ranking for sure, but at least Dignitas managed to take care of business and beat 100 Thieves. While Dignitas has done well against quality competition, there is still some room for concern given that they have the worst early game rating by a team that isn’t CLG (40.6, according to Oracle’s Elixir). Their last game of the first round robin against Immortals should be a true test of teams that still need to prove something despite being at the top of the table.
2. FlyQuest (5-3)
Elo: 463 (48)
With takedowns of 100 Thieves and TSM, FlyQuest solidified their spot at the top of the standings after Week 4. While they aren’t the greatest early game team (42.3 EGR according to Oracle’s Elixir), their mid and late game macro has been spectacular (20.2 MLR, which is better than Cloud9’s). Right now, I see no reason FlyQuest can’t run the table to end solidly in a playoff position with how their roster is gelling.
1. Cloud9 (8-0)
Elo: 602 (-29)
It’s a rarity that a team can win both their games in one weekend and have their elo drop but that’s the point that Cloud9 are at. Nothing and no one in the LCS can stop this absolute juggernaut, as they smoked TSM and Evil Geniuses last weekend. 18-0 is now squarely in this team’s sights, only 10 games away.
